Pharmacists: The First Line of Access to Patient Symptoms
At the seminar “Responding to non-communicable diseases through sustainable financing mechanisms, digital transformation and enhancing access towards universal health coverage” held on the afternoon of June 6, many opinions emphasized the frontline role of grassroots health care .
Mr. Le Quang Tho, Director of Phu Tho Department of Health, said that 100% of commune health stations in the province have doctors who are trained to guide the treatment of common diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. This helps people to be diagnosed and treated right where they live.
Sharing the same view, a representative of a pharmacy system shared: in the pharmaceutical field, pharmacists are often the first to come into contact with patients' initial symptoms.
“Some people come just to buy eye drops, but when asked further, they share about insomnia, headaches... Pharmacists can suggest measuring blood pressure and advise patients to go to a medical facility promptly,” said a representative of the pharmacy system.
According to her, realizing this role, the pharmacy system is focusing on training pharmacists who are able to receive and convey medical information in an easy-to-understand way, close to the community.
A representative of the Department of Health Insurance (Ministry of Health) also said that currently, frontline medical facilities are allowed to use all drugs in the health insurance list, in accordance with their professional scope, regardless of hospital class. This helps improve people's access to early treatment.
Promoting data connectivity and healthcare identification
Representatives of some pharmaceutical companies said that they have digitized user databases to serve as consultation and health care for drug refills. This data is committed to confidentiality and is connected to the digital health platform.
Some large pharmacy chains have also begun integrating electronic identification through VNeID, moving towards building electronic health records for each person, supporting the long-term monitoring and treatment process.
This forum on innovation and creativity in the healthcare sector focuses on discussing solutions to enhance the application of technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and sustainable finance in healthcare, especially at the grassroots level.
