Immediately after the Party Committee and the Border Guard Command launched the program “Helping children go to school” throughout the force and then the model “Adopted children of Border Guard stations” was enthusiastically responded to and implemented by officers and soldiers of the Border Guard of Tien Giang province. Because, in the coastal border area of the province, there are many families with difficult circumstances who do not have the conditions to take care of their children's education...
Based on the above reality, the Border Guard Party Committee of Tien Giang province has specified the Program "Helping children go to school" in the leadership resolution, directing agencies and units to organize implementation, considering this a regular task and one of the important solutions to build an increasingly strong coastal border area. Border Guard Stations coordinate with local authorities and schools in the area to conduct surveys and select students with especially difficult circumstances, ensuring the required criteria to receive sponsorship and adoption at the unit.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard, said that the program "Helping children go to school" and the model "Adopted children of Border Guard stations" are the right policies of the Party Committee and the Border Guard High Command. The program and model demonstrate profound humanity, sentiments, gratitude, and meaningful work of Border Guard officers and soldiers towards ethnic minorities in border and island areas, contributing to the implementation of the motto "The station is home, the border is homeland, ethnic minorities are blood brothers". |
The program “Helping children go to school” has a profound humanitarian meaning and has received consensus and active participation from officers and soldiers in the unit. Every year, each officer and professional officer deducts 2 days of basic salary; non-commissioned officers and soldiers participate in voluntary contributions; deducts revenue from increased production and mobilizes funding sources to establish the unit’s “Helping children go to school” Fund.
The above funding source is assigned by the Border Guard Command of Tien Giang province to specialized agencies to manage and use to ensure the right purpose and financial principles. Every year, the funding is allocated to units to support students in accordance with the norm of 500,000 VND/student/month. Up to now, the unit has supported the students with a total amount of over 1.2 billion VND. In addition, every year, on the occasion of the new school year, International Children's Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Traditional National New Year, the units also give gifts to encourage the students to excel in their studies.
In addition, the "Step Up to School" Fund at agencies and units also received support from many businesses and philanthropists, donating nearly 3,000 notebooks, 130 backpacks, 35 bicycles, 2 desks and 85 million VND to support children in buying clothes and school supplies. The Provincial Border Guard Command allocated 42 million VND from the unit's fund to support 2 children who are "Adopted children of the Border Guard Station" to purchase learning equipment under the "Waves and Computers for Children" Program so that children can study online when the locality is implementing social distancing during the Covid-19 outbreak...

Major Nguyen Huynh Danh, Political Commissar, Deputy Head of Phu Tan Border Post, said that in addition to Phuc, the unit also adopted Nguyen Ngoc Hanh Dung (born in 2012, residing in Phao Dai Hamlet, Phu Tan Commune, Tan Phu Dong District), who lost her father at a young age and is currently living with her mother. The unit has assigned staff to directly adopt the two children, regularly visiting, encouraging and monitoring their learning situation. In addition to Phuc and Hanh, in the area under the unit's responsibility, there are 8 children supported in the "Helping Children Go to School" Program.
From 2016 to present, agencies and units of the Border Guard of Tien Giang province have sponsored 32 students under the program "Helping children go to school" and adopted 2 children as "Foster children of the Border Guard Station" directly adopted by Phu Tan Border Guard Station. Over the years, the children sponsored by the Border Guard have regularly gone to school, stayed in class, and made progress in their studies and physical training.
As a result, the students' academic and training achievements have improved significantly, and they have been praised and commended by teachers and schools. This result has affirmed the effectiveness of the "Adopted Children of Border Guard Station" model, creating favorable conditions for students to continue to develop and excel in their studies. On the other hand, through sponsoring students, the coordination between the Border Guard Station and local authorities, schools and students' families has become more closely linked, creating a foundation for strengthening the "military - people" solidarity.
Currently, the Border Guard unit of Tien Giang province is sponsoring 31 children in the "Helping children go to school" program, with 13 primary school students; 15 secondary school students; 3 high school students (of which 7 are fatherless and 1 is motherless; 1 is both fatherless and motherless). At the end of the school years, many children have graduated from grade 12 and passed the entrance exams to colleges and universities; in the 2023-2024 school year alone, 5 children have graduated from grade 12, of which 2 students passed the university entrance exam and 2 students passed the college entrance exam. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard, said that after a period of implementation, the program "Helping children go to school" and the model "Adopted children of Border Guard stations" have brought about many clear practical results. Party committees and commanders of units have done a good job of disseminating, propagating, and mobilizing officers and soldiers to raise awareness, responsibility, voluntarily contribute funds, and participate in the implementation. Officers and soldiers assigned to directly tutor and help the children always uphold a sense of responsibility, wholeheartedly taking care of the children in both daily life and study. Base units regularly coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to care for, encourage, visit, and tutor the children, thereby creating consensus in organizing and implementing the program and model.
To ensure funding to support and nurture the children, the units have mobilized organizations, individuals, officers and soldiers inside and outside the unit in the spirit of volunteerism, responsibility, affection and sharing with the people in the coastal border areas to support funding for the implementation of the program and model. In addition, the units also send officers to regularly meet, provide material support, encourage the spirit of overcoming difficulties, regularly exchange and guide the children in studying, training and physical activities. Maintain close contact with the locality, family and school where the children study to exchange information, grasp the situation of studying, training, awareness and responsibility of the children towards the class, school, family and community in order to promptly encourage and motivate positive actions. Detect and correct incorrect actions, wrong and deviant manifestations, helping the children become good children and good students. Through that, we create a close and intimate relationship between the Border Guard Station and the families, between the Border Guard officers and soldiers and the children, many comrades are like "fathers, mothers, and brothers" to the children.
Not only demonstrating profound humanity, being recognized and highly appreciated by local Party committees, authorities and people, the program “Helping children go to school” and the model “Adopted children of Border Guard Station” by the Border Guard of Tien Giang province have helped many poor students to have a bright future. The program and model have contributed to strengthening the “military-civilian” relationship in the coastal border area.
