The Thai newspaper also reported that many Thai and Cambodian people had entered Sathya’s post to bid for the medal. In addition, Facebook accounts of famous people such as Cambodian Taekwondo athlete Lyna Chhoeung and Vlogger Choeun Chork also commented on Chhay Sathya’s post.

" The medal that everyone desires, keep it carefully ," commented boxer Lyna Chhoeung.

" Please auction it for charity. I guarantee it will cost 50,000 USD (about more than 1 billion VND) ," Siev Sophal account called.

" The medal holds historical value. Keep it close. If I could, I would buy it for $80,000 ," one account wrote under the post.

The silver medal previously belonged to U22 Thailand midfielder Jonathan Khemdee. He threw it into the stands when the final match ended. Khemdee's action was heavily criticized by Thai and Cambodian fans. Khmer Times reported that Mr. Chum Kosal, Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Information, said " Khemdee lost his spirit as a player and disrespected the host country ". At the same time, Mr. Kosal suggested that the Thai Football Federation should re-educate this player.

Khemdee later explained that he did not intend to throw away the medal. He only wanted to give the medal and mascot back to the fans who came to cheer. Before the final match, Khemdee said that this was his last match with the Thai national team. Thai media said that the player born in 2002 was aiming for the opportunity to play for the Danish national team. Khemdee has not played a single match for the Thai national team, so this is completely possible.
