Born in a poor village without electricity in El M'Ghair, southeastern Algeria, Dr. Belgacem Haba has risen to become one of the world's most prominent inventors with more than 1,600 patents registered globally, making enormous contributions in the fields of microelectronics and digital technology .
Born in 1957, in the context of a newly independent country, Haba grew up in the middle of a barren desert with the message: "Study to contribute to the country".
From a good math student in a village school, Haba overcame challenges to gradually advance to high school in the city of Touggourt, Algeria, and then continued to university in the capital Algiers.
With a government scholarship, he studied in the United States. At Stanford University, Haba earned three advanced degrees in applied physics, materials science , and solar energy.
After working at the multinational computer technology corporation IBM (USA) and the multinational electronics and information technology corporation NEC (Japan), in 1996 he joined Tessera Corporation (now Xperi), starting the revolution in miniaturization of electronic devices.
Mr. Haba once shared in an interview that at that time, mobile phones weighed up to 3kg, were only for the rich, and he thought that if we could shrink it, we would sell millions, even billions of them.
Under his leadership, the team successfully developed microchip packaging techniques, paving the way for modern mobile phones, microcameras and memory cards. Hundreds of his inventions are present in almost every electronic device worldwide.
After selling his co-founded startup SiliconPipe to Samsung, Haba went on to work at Rambus Technology Group (USA) and Google. Despite his fame and success in Silicon Valley, he maintained a simple lifestyle and continued to contribute to science.
In 2022, he founded the Numidia Institute of Technology in Algiers, which aims to train young people in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and cloud computing.
For Dr. Haba, creativity is not about glorifying himself, but about inspiring others. He always believes that what he has done, others can do too.
More than an invention, Haba has become a living symbol of faith in knowledge and the will to overcome circumstances, a powerful message in turbulent times.
