Waterway police ambush and arrest 'sand pirates' on the Red River

On the evening of November 15, a representative of the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police said that Waterway Police Team No. 1 had just arrested two "sand pirate" ships on the Red River.

Specifically, at 8:00 p.m. on November 14, on the left bank of the Red River (in Trung Chau commune, Dan Phuong district), the Working Group of Waterway Police Team No. 1 coordinated with the Economic and Environmental Crime Investigation Police Team of Dan Phuong District Police to arrest the ship with the number PT-2205.

Machinery on this ship is pumping sand from the Red River into the cargo hold of ship numbered VP-2588.

At the time of inspection, there were 3 people on board PT-2205: NVH (born in 1992, the vehicle operator); NTP (born in 1993) and NVQ (born in 1980) were working on the ship.

Upon inspection, the three people could not present mineral exploitation licenses issued by competent state agencies as well as documents related to vehicles and professional certificates.

With ship number VP-2588, there are 2 people: LBD (born in 2001) is the driver; D.VP (born in 1968) is the person working on the vehicle.

These people also could not present mineral exploitation licenses issued by competent state agencies, and could only present documents related to the vehicle and a certificate of professional competence for a T3 class captain.

Police determined that the volume of sand in the cargo hold of ship VP-2588 was 250m3.

After completing the initial documents, the working group of Waterway Police Team No. 1 brought the two illegal sand mining vehicles to Son Tay port for further verification and handling according to regulations.
