On February 27, the Vietnam Coast Guard had exchange and cooperation activities with the coast guards of China and France.

On February 27, the coast guard forces of Vietnam and China organized the first joint patrol in 2025 in the northern sea area of the Gulf of Tonkin. The scope is in Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province (Vietnam) and Dongxing city, Fangchenggang city, Guangxi province (China). The activity aims to strengthen coordination in the fight against crimes and law violations at sea.

The scope of this joint patrol extends from point 1 to point 9 on the demarcation line of the Gulf of Tonkin, a distance of 120 nautical miles. This is an area with many import-export activities and goods exchange between Vietnam and China, and is also an area that subjects take advantage of to conduct illegal activities such as smuggling, trade fraud, transporting goods, illegally crossing the border, and illegally entering by sea.

During the patrol, the Vietnam Coast Guard actively propagated and informed dozens of domestic fishing vessels operating in the border sea area to strictly comply with regulations on IUU fishing. Thereby, contributing to removing the yellow card of the European Commission (EC) and developing the Vietnamese seafood industry in a sustainable manner.

This is the fifth joint patrol in the border waters since 2024, organized by the coast guard forces of the two countries once a quarter to regularly maintain security and order, and ensure compliance with the law by the people of the two countries.

Strengthening training cooperation with the French Navy

On the afternoon of February 27 in Hanoi, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, Major General Vu Trung Kien, had a meeting and worked with Deputy Commander of French forces in the Pacific , Rear Admiral Jacques Riviere.

It is expected that on February 28, the French Navy's multi-mission frigate Provence, with 159 officers and crew, will dock at Bong Sen port, starting a courtesy visit to Ho Chi Minh City. On this occasion, Rear Admiral Jacques Riviere expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Coast Guard and the Provence will conduct joint search and rescue exercises, thereby enhancing exchanges and mutual learning.

At the meeting, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, Major General Vu Trung Kien, highly appreciated the cooperation activities between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the French side in recent times, emphasizing the diplomatic visits of French naval ships and training courses to improve the capacity to perform tasks at sea organized by France.

Major General Vu Trung Kien said that the potential for cooperation between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the French Navy is still very large, especially in cooperation to deal with non-traditional security challenges such as: fighting transnational crimes, solving environmental problems, search and rescue, resolving security and safety risks at sea...

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation in capacity building, information exchange, coordination, and mutual support in law enforcement at sea.
