Attention should be paid to ensuring safety at tourist attractions such as streams and waterfalls.

In the summer, the hot weather lasts for a long time, eco-tourism combined with bathing in streams and waterfalls in mountainous districts in the province is becoming the top choice of local people and tourists. This is a potential type of tourism, contributing to enriching the tourism picture of the province. However, in addition to investing in infrastructure, diversifying products and services, ensuring safety factors for tourists visiting and experiencing these tourist destinations is an issue that needs attention.

In recent years, the system of rivers, streams and waterfalls in the mountainous districts of Quang Tri has left its own mark on tourists because of its majestic and cool appearance under the green forest canopy. The hot weather makes many locals and tourists want to find places with pristine nature and fresh, clean air to rest and relax. Therefore, every summer, almost all tourist attractions combining stream and waterfall bathing in the province operate at full capacity.

In Dakrong district, places such as Ba Voi waterfall in Huong Hiep commune, Luoi waterfall in Mo O commune, A Lao stream, Pa Cha stream in Ta Long commune are ideal places that attract a large number of tourists to bathe and experience. Huong Hoa district also has attractive destinations such as Ta Puong waterfall in Huong Viet commune, Chenh Venh waterfall in Huong Phung commune, Ta Du stream in Tan Hop commune... During the peak hot season, on average, the above locations welcome hundreds of visitors every day to visit and have fun.

Mr. Dinh Tien in Dong Ha City said: “Every summer, my family often chooses places where our children can explore, experience and get close to nature. In my opinion, the services at the tourist attractions of streams and waterfalls in the province are quite complete, clean and of good quality. Coming here, in addition to experiencing bathing in the streams, visitors can also explore the unique culture and cuisine of the local people. However, because the streams have many rocks and are slippery, when letting children bathe, parents need to pay attention and closely monitor their children to avoid accidents, drowning or other dangerous problems.”

Going up to the Western region of Quang Tri, although it is quite a long way, many tourists still like to visit the waterfall and stream tourist spots here. However, according to the reporter's observations, in reality, there are many small, spontaneous, unrecognized, and unformed management board bathing spots. In addition, the trend of some young people who like to visit deserted, sparsely populated streams and waterfalls to freely experience can easily cause many unsafe issues.

At tourist attractions, although life jackets, swimming buoys and safety zones have been set up, some tourists still do not wear life jackets and do not comply with regulations. This poses many risks of accidents and drowning. On the other hand, most spontaneous tourist attractions have not been inspected for tourism environment quality, infrastructure and service facilities are not yet guaranteed, and there is a lack of security and rescue forces, so many risks of unsafety can occur.

Another cause of drowning and unfortunate accidents at tourist attractions such as streams and waterfalls is that first-time bathers are not used to moving over rocks, so they can easily slip and fall; the water in streams and waterfalls is often very cold while human body temperature is rising due to the hot sun, so if they immediately go in to bathe, they can easily get heatstroke; thunderstorms with thunder and lightning often occur in the summer, sometimes making it difficult for tourists to move to safety in time.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DOCST) Ho Van Hoan, the demand of people and tourists to visit tourist attractions that combine bathing in streams and waterfalls is increasing. Therefore, in addition to investing in a variety of products and services, ensuring the safety of tourists is extremely necessary. To ensure the safety of tourists, every year, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent documents to the Department of Culture, Science and Information of districts, towns, cities and tourism service businesses in the province regarding the implementation of safety measures during the peak summer tourist season and holidays.

Specifically, in document No. 327/SVHTTDL-QLDL sent to the People's Committee of Huong Hoa district and the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities on strengthening state management of tourism service activities, it emphasized the direction to strengthen state management of tourism service business activities in the area; promptly correct service business establishments that violate or do not meet the requirements on quality, safety, security and order, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation, food safety, etc.

Coordinate with relevant sectors to guide businesses in registering business activities, fulfilling financial obligations and conditions as prescribed. The Department also requested localities to strengthen management, supervision, and implementation of accident prevention and drowning prevention at tourist destinations that combine bathing in streams and waterfalls. At the same time, focus on propaganda and reminders on accident prevention and drowning prevention in conjunction with inspection and handling of violations at tourist destinations.

“In addition to inspections and reminders from management agencies, businesses and owners of tourist attractions need to proactively warn and ensure safety for tourists. Before entering the peak season, businesses and owners of tourist attractions need to pay attention to training skills for employees; equip and repair equipment and vehicles to meet rescue conditions. Arrange forces or self-managed teams to be on duty and respond promptly when incidents occur.

In addition, tourists need to proactively equip themselves with knowledge and measures to protect themselves; comply with safety principles when visiting and experiencing tourist attractions such as streams and waterfalls," Mr. Hoan emphasized.
