According to records, more than 20 hectares of watermelons in Trieu Trach commune were in the process of being ready for harvest when they were deeply submerged in water. The largest watermelons were waterlogged, rotten, and completely damaged. The estimated damage was more than 4 billion VND. Many households were left empty-handed after a season of hard work.

Mr. Phan Mung, Long Quang village, said that his family grew more than 4 sao of melons, estimated to earn about 20 million VND this season, but after the recent flood, everything was lost. The melon fields were less than 10 days away from harvest, now only the roots and rotten melons are left in the fields.
Mr. Tran Dong, Vice Chairman of Trieu Trach Commune People's Committee, said: "This is the third consecutive year that melon growers in Trieu Trach Commune have lost the entire summer-autumn crop due to natural disasters, especially this summer-autumn crop, thousands of unharvested melons were damaged by floodwaters. The commune has reviewed the damaged area and reported to superiors to have a direction to support the people. We hope that the relevant agencies will soon have timely support policies to help people overcome difficulties and soon restore production."
Although the water has receded, the consequences are huge, directly affecting the livelihoods of hundreds of households that depend on growing melons.
