The IELTS Prize is the British Council’s annual scholarship programme for candidates who want to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in all fields. With more than 1,700 applications from 15 countries in the East Asia region, the British Council has selected 55 scholarship candidates, including 3 Vietnamese students with outstanding abilities and dreams of making a personal mark and contributing to society through studying in an international environment.
As the winner of the IELTS Prize, Huyen My, a master's student majoring in business analysis at Aston University (UK), wanted to understand the motivations of learners to develop a personalized platform, providing English-language resources on important topics. "The IELTS Prize scholarship is not simply financial support but also supports my vision of a future where learners are equipped with comprehensive knowledge and teachers are optimally supported," My said.

Thu Ha, who won second prize and is currently a master's student in education at the University of Bristol (UK), aims to create an educational environment where everyone understands the value of learning a foreign language and where students' voices are truly heard. "It is important to understand that the goal of learning English is not just about achievements, but also about effective interaction and self-development in a globalized world ," Ha shared.
As for third-place contestant Ngoc Dung, his interest focuses on the mental and spiritual health of young people. This is also the motivation for him to pursue the development of an application that provides bilingual documents and courses for those who are passionate about the field of psychology. "Through this platform, you will have the opportunity to access general knowledge about psychology, while improving your English skills," said the graduate student in psychological research methods at the University of Exeter (UK).

Academic excellence and a commitment to community service are the factors that help IELTS Prize winners, according to Heather Forbes, Director of International Examinations for East Asia at the British Council. “More importantly, scholarship winners are those who demonstrate a commitment to applying the knowledge and expertise gained during their studies to contribute to their country or homeland,” Forbes said.
This year, the IELTS Prize has lowered the minimum entry requirement to 5.5 IELTS to open up more opportunities for candidates, instead of 6.0 as before. The British Council has also introduced a new way of applying, encouraging learners to be creative, express themselves and present their ideas to the community through video recording.
