First human case of H5N1 detected in Canada is a teenager

Canadian health officials say the first suspected case of H5N1 bird flu in a human in Canada has been detected in British Columbia.

The announcement said the case is a teenager who is currently being isolated and treated at a local children's hospital. Authorities are urgently tracing people who have been in close contact with the case and conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the source of the infection. Initial assessments indicate that the source of the disease is likely to be animals or birds.

According to the announcement, apart from the above case, British Columbia has not yet detected any other cases.

In neighboring America, authorities have also recorded many cases of bird flu among workers on poultry and livestock farms.

Data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that 39 people have tested positive for avian influenza since the beginning of the year as the disease spreads through more than 400 dairy herds. Of these, 38 are farm workers who have come into contact with infected animals.
