A corner of the peach garden of Mr. Ly Phu Chiu's family.
Every morning, on the windy hillside in Ta Chai village, a Mong man with calloused hands meticulously bends and trims each peach, apricot, and orchid pot. That is Mr. Ly Phu Chieu - the first person in Ta Chai village who dares to convert all corn and rice fields to grow ornamental plants.
Mr. Ly Phu Chiu trims bonsai trees.
In 2017, when the land for growing corn and rice was no longer as effective as expected, Mr. Chieu decided to convert the entire area to growing peach, apricot and orchid. However, at first, he only received failures: the trees died, did not flower or flowered at the wrong time... The reason was that he lacked capital for care, had no experience, no techniques and did not know who to learn from.
However, with his industrious nature, perseverance and willingness to learn, Mr. Ly Phu Chieu has found a way to make the trees bloom at the right time, with a high survival rate despite the harsh weather conditions of Sa Pa. The bonsai trees are created in many beautiful shapes and positions to suit consumer tastes. The family's production model is gradually bringing about results. "If you are not careful, the tree will break, if you bend it incorrectly, it will not take shape. I gradually learned from artisans in Nam Dinh , and finally I was able to do it. Now I know how to take care of the flowers to bloom in time for Tet," he said.

Currently, Mr. Chieu's family has more than 1,000 peach trees, 800 apricot trees and nearly 600 orchid pots. Annual revenue is estimated at nearly 1 billion VND.
The valuable thing is that Mr. Chiu does not keep his success to himself. Mr. Giang Seo Pao in Ta Chai village, Ta Phin commune, Sa Pa town currently has nearly 300 peach trees and shares: "People here only grow corn and rice to make a living. When I saw Mr. Chiu's family doing it, I also learned to follow. Mr. Chiu enthusiastically instructed me on how to mix soil, bend branches, calculate the date to press buds..."
Not only sharing his experience, Mr. Chieu also actively encouraged villagers to switch crops, and proactively invited traders to come to the place to buy, creating stable output. Up to now, 50% of households in Ta Chai have converted part or all of their agricultural land to grow peach and orchid, forming a specialized flower growing area for Tet.
Mr. Chiu actively shares his experiences with villagers.
Mr. Chiu’s family currently provides regular jobs for 6 workers, along with more than 10 seasonal workers during peak seasons. Many households have escaped poverty by following Mr. Chiu’s economic methods.
Mr. Ly Cu Menh, Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ta Phin Commune, commented: "Mr. Chieu is a pioneer in growing ornamental flowers and plants in Ta Chai. Not only is he good at business, he is also willing to share his experiences. The commune is expanding this economic development model to other villages to make the lives of local people more prosperous and beautiful."
The model of Mr. Ly Phu Chieu's family creates jobs for many local workers.
From a poor farmer who refused to accept his fate, Ly Phu Chieu found a way to get rich on his homeland.
