The first hospital in the North has a modern quantum CT machine

(Dan Tri) - Currently in the North, Phuong Dong General Hospital (Dong Ngac, Hanoi) is the first and only unit to own the NAEOTOM Alpha system.

The NAEOTOM Alpha quantum tomography system (the latest generation of photon counting CT) possesses many breakthroughs: full body scan in less than 1 second, high resolution images, 90% reduction in radiation exposure for patients,... is expected to open a new era in the diagnosis of stroke, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

FDA Clinically Cleared Whole Body Quantum Tomography System

Computed tomography (CT) is an indispensable tool in medical diagnosis. However, up to now, old generation CT machines still have some limitations in early detection of microscopic lesions, small tumors or complex cardiovascular diseases (due to the image being easily blurred, unable to return results if there is metal during the scan; unable to analyze the energy spectrum).

Those limitations will be eliminated with the appearance of the NAEOTOM Alpha quantum tomography system, the world's most modern photon counting CT scanner and one of the few systems clinically recognized by the FDA.

Currently in the North, Phuong Dong General Hospital (Dong Ngac, Hanoi ) is the first and only unit to own the NAEOTOM Alpha system. The hospital has started putting the machine into operation, expected to launch in early August.

Far superior to older generation CT systems, NAEOTOM Alpha does not need to convert X-rays into intermediate light but directly captures each photon as it passes through the body. As a result, the image has superior detail, eliminating noise and distortions caused by older techniques, providing many times higher diagnostic value.

Comprehensive application of artificial intelligence with a series of new breakthroughs

NAEOTOM Alpha is currently a photon counting CT system that applies artificial intelligence (AI) intensively. Integrating AI into the machine's functional operations has created many outstanding points in operation:

Fast full body scan: Scanning time less than 1 second (737mm/s), suitable for emergency patients, pediatric patients, people who cannot hold their breath or have difficulty cooperating during scans.

High resolution: sharp images up to 110µm, helping to detect microscopic tumors and microscopic lesions in hard-to-reach locations throughout the body.

90% reduction in X-ray dose compared to conventional CT: Radiation level is only equivalent to natural environment, ensuring safety for patients who need regular CT scans such as cancer, chronic diseases, elderly people, pediatric patients, pregnant women (if indicated).

Up to 68% less contrast agent: Helps reduce the risk of kidney failure and many other side effects.

Thin slices, overcoming the limit of the number of slices: The system can capture 0.2mm thin slices, giving sharp images of all body structures.

NAEOTOM Alpha has fast image resolution and full body capture speed.

With all the above breakthrough features, the NAEOTOM Alpha system helps doctors easily diagnose coronary arteries accurately, even with patients with stents, pacemakers or metal in their bodies, which other CT systems cannot do. That is, this group of patients will not need to do invasive techniques such as digital subtraction angiography (DSA), which has many potential risks; but just need to take pictures with the NAEOTOM Alpha system to ensure effective monitoring and diagnosis.

In particular, NAEOTOM Alpha recreates images with slices of only 0.2 mm, fine-tuning to every small point in the brain. Therefore, doctors can identify white tissue/gray tissue lesions very early, clearly see small brain vessels, very small infarcts - the risks of causing stroke. This is something that old-generation CT often misses. Early screening before symptoms appear will help pave the way for timely intervention, stopping the serious consequences of stroke.

NAEOTOM Alpha has a gantry hole diameter of up to 82cm, creating comfort for the photographer.

The operation of the NAEOTOM Alpha quantum tomography system demonstrates the efforts of non-public hospital systems such as Phuong Dong General Hospital in modernizing medical technology, to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment. From there, people will easily access the most modern diagnostic methods in the world right in Vietnam; on the other hand, it also contributes to raising the position of the country's healthcare system in the international arena.
