According to the family, the girl HNH (6 years old, in Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province), was too focused on watching her phone while getting into the elevator, so her left leg got stuck in the elevator door.

Immediately after discovering the baby, the family pressed the elevator button to take the baby out, however, the wound on the left thigh and lower leg was bleeding profusely. Relatives performed first aid to stop the bleeding, bandaged the baby and immediately took him to the hospital for treatment.

When arriving at the emergency room at Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital, the patient was in shock from blood loss, lethargic, showing signs of coma, pale skin, pale mucous membranes... The wound on the left leg had a large skin peeling, an open fracture exposing the left tibia, leading to bleeding, a broken femur, and a wobbly knee joint.

Doctors examined, took X-rays of the injured area, and diagnosed the patient with traumatic shock, grade IIIB open fracture: near-complete rupture of the left lower leg, fracture of the left femur, and abdominal and pelvic trauma due to a domestic accident.

The patient was consulted for emergency surgery with many teams at the same time performing surgery, medical resuscitation, and emergency blood transfusion... The doctor removed crushed tissue, carefully examined the arteries and nerves, sutured all tendons, fixed the bones, and performed intensive resuscitation.

After surgery, the patient's legs showed signs of turning pink again, becoming warm, and the toes had sensation.

The baby continued to be monitored at the neurosurgery - musculoskeletal department, then underwent a second surgery to fuse the femur; it is expected that after being discharged from the hospital, the girl will continue to receive physical therapy instructions for recovery.

According to Dr. Le Dung - Head of the Department of Neurosurgery - Musculoskeletal, Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital, the risk of accidents for children while using elevators, escalators, automatic doors... is very high due to lack of attention, so adults need to pay close attention to prevent risks around children.

Elevator accidents like this little girl's are not rare. After an accident occurs, adults need to stay calm, reassure the victim, provide first aid to stop the bleeding, and immediately transfer to a medical facility for timely treatment.
