From the 2025-2026 V-League season, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have issued regulations requiring head coaches leading V-League clubs to have a Pro/AFC/VFF coaching certificate. This regulation aims to improve the professional level of the tournament, but it also causes many Vietnamese coaches to face difficulties, forcing them to temporarily stop working to complete the training course.

Therefore, 5 out of 14 teams participating in the V-League this season must recruit and use foreign coaches to meet the requirements of the tournament's regulations. Alexandre Polking (Hanoi Police), Velizar Popov ( Viettel The Cong), Choi Won-kwon (Thanh Hoa) and Teguramori Makoto (Hanoi) are coaches with extensive experience working in Asian football, having led national teams or clubs in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, Gerard Albadalejo Castano (Ninh Binh) is a former Spanish player with extensive coaching experience in the land of the bulls.
After 3 rounds, Coach Choi Won-kwon and Teguramori Makoto have encountered many difficulties and are at risk of being fired soon. Hanoi FC is considered a candidate to compete for the championship when the core force includes many national players and expensive foreign players. However, Hanoi FC's poor performance has caused experts to underestimate the ability and talent of the Japanese coach.
Meanwhile, coach Choi Won-kwon does not have a strong squad ahead of the new season because Thanh Hoa Club's operating budget is gradually decreasing. Mr. Choi's team is at the bottom of the rankings after conceding 6 goals and scoring 1 goal in 3 matches with only 1 point.
In the near future, the risk of the Thanh Hoa football team saying goodbye to the former assistant coach of the Vietnam national team has increased when Mr. Cao Tien Doan (General Director of Dong A Group, Chairman of Dong A Thanh Hoa Club) has just been investigated for accounting violations.
In 2020, Mr. Doan took on the responsibility of managing Thanh Hoa Club by establishing Dong A Thanh Hoa Football Company Limited with a charter capital of 36 billion VND. Under Chairman Doan, the Thanh team achieved many successes in the domestic arena, setting a record of 2 consecutive years of winning the National Cup (2023 and 2023-2024), and winning the 2023 National Super Cup.
In order to maintain the stable operation of Thanh Hoa Club in the 2025-2026 season, on August 29, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee on transferring the management of the Club to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Football Federation.
