Surprised by Wirtz's salary at Liverpool

Florian Wirtz is set to become one of the highest paid players in Liverpool's history, with a salary of up to £355,000/week, second only to Mohamed Salah (£400,000/week).

This blockbuster deal is considered “almost complete”, marking the clear ambition of new coach Arne Slot in building a new Liverpool full of creativity and innovation.

According to Bild , the German star will sign a 5-year contract with the Anfield team, receiving a salary of 355,000 pounds/week. This is a salary that exceeds that of captain Virgil van Dijk (350,000 pounds/week), showing Wirtz's special position in Slot's tactical plan - where he will be arranged to play in his favorite number 10 position, the center of all attacks.

Liverpool are also ready to break the Premier League transfer record for Wirtz. Bayer Leverkusen value the 22-year-old at £126m, which is more than the £115m Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo. Despite Liverpool's offer of £100m plus £13m in add-ons, Leverkusen are sticking to their asking price.

Wirtz, who is currently playing for Germany in the Nations League, has made no secret of his desire to play for Liverpool. Asked after the semi-final defeat to Portugal if he was excited about the prospect of a move to Anfield, he nodded. “He has chosen Liverpool, it’s just a matter of time,” said sources close to the player.

It is worth noting that Wirtz has publicly stated that money was not the driving force behind his decision. In an interview with Sports Illustrated Germany , the midfielder said: “I don’t care how much money I have in my account. The most important thing is a professional plan, the opportunity to develop properly. If I focus too much on money, my parents will be the first to get angry.”

“When I first came to Leverkusen, my parents only gave me 150 euros a month. They wanted me to learn to appreciate the value of money and the effort I put in,” Wirtz added.

Barring any last-minute complications, Wirtz will become Liverpool's third signing of the summer, after the Merseyside club signed Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen for £29.5m. The Dutch right-back signed a five-year contract and completed a medical last month.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also in talks with Bournemouth over the transfer of left-back Milos Kerkez, who is valued at around £40m. These strong moves show that Arne Slot is not just inheriting Klopp's legacy - he is rebuilding it in his own way, with "golden bricks" like Florian Wirtz.
