Surprise replacement for Bich Tuyen and Thanh Thuy in Shanghai tournament

Right after VTV Cup 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team continued to compete in the Shanghai Future Stars Cup 2025. The tournament took place from July 13-19, attracting 8 participating teams.

According to the draw results, the Vietnamese women's team is in Group A with the Chinese U21 team, the French youth team and the Bauru U21 team (Brazil). Group B includes Shanghai U21, Slovenian youth, Dutch youth and Canadian youth. The teams will compete in a round robin to determine the top two teams in each group to enter the semi-finals.

Notably, at this tournament, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team sent the second team, with Kieu Trinh, Nguyen Thi Phuong, Pham Thi Hien, Ly Ly, Nguyen Thi Uyen... Meanwhile, the pillars Thanh Thuy, Bich Tuyen , Khanh Dang... stayed home to practice, preparing for the 2 SEA V-League stages taking place next August.

At the Shanghai Future Stars Cup 2025, most teams sent young players to participate, but the quality of the tournament was highly appreciated. Last year, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team only ranked 5th overall.

This is an opportunity for the second team of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to compete and score points with head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, and have the opportunity to compete more regularly in upcoming major tournaments such as SEA V-League, World Cup, and SEA Games 33.

Under the guidance of coach Ngoc Hoa, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has many changes compared to the VTV Cup. The two positions that experts and fans are especially interested in are Bich Tuyen and Thanh Thuy, carefully selected by the coach from Long An .

Accordingly, in the opposite position of Bich Tuyen, Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh and Pham Thuy Linh are both ready to perform. Kieu Trinh with her international competition experience can play as the main player, while Thuy Linh enters the field at times when her teammate from Quang Binh needs to rest to regain strength.

In Thanh Thuy's main attacking position, the opportunities are divided equally among Nguyen Thi Uyen, Nguyen Thi Phuong, and Bui Thi Anh Thao. Among them, Nguyen Thi Phuong had a good performance at the recent VTV Cup and is likely to be highly valued by coach Ngoc Hoa.

In general, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team does not aim for achievements at the Shanghai Future Stars Cup 2025. Through the tournament, athletes can learn and "compete" with strong opponents, while the coaching staff can further evaluate the force to select the athletes with the highest performance and best fit for upcoming tournaments.
