Arrested 2 young men for producing and trading thousands of fake bone and joint pain relievers

(Dan Tri) - Thanh Hoa province authorities have arrested two subjects in a ring producing and trading fake functional foods, illegally earning hundreds of millions of dong.

On December 27, the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic Crimes, Smuggling and Environmental Crimes of Thanh Hoa Province Police prosecuted and arrested two subjects Nguyen Huu Nam (born 2000, residing in Sam Son City) and Trieu Y Tam (born 2001, residing in Hanoi) on charges of Manufacturing and trading counterfeit goods.

According to information from the investigation agency, the two subjects took advantage of people's health care needs and lack of knowledge to commit illegal acts. Nam and Tam used social networks to advertise and introduce "genuine" products of S99 Investment and Technology Joint Stock Company.

In April, Nguyen Huu Nam established a sole proprietorship and ran ads under the name Nam Trung. He created three Facebook pages and hired online sales staff.

The products advertised by Nam include functional foods to support the relief of bone and joint pain, branded "KHỌP TÂY BẮC" and "CAO TÂY BẮC" of S99 Investment and Technology Joint Stock Company.

However, instead of contacting the company to get the goods, Nam colluded with Trieu Y Tam to buy raw materials, labels and produce counterfeit goods at Tam's house in Ba Vi district, Hanoi , then transported them to Thanh Hoa for consumption.

From April until their arrest, Nam and Tam produced and sold thousands of bottles of fake joint pain relief supplements, illegally profiting hundreds of millions of dong.

Through searching the subjects' residences and workplaces, the police discovered and seized many products and raw materials for producing counterfeit goods, including more than 1,000 boxes of fake finished Tay Bac balm, nearly 1,000 anti-counterfeit stamps, and many tools and machines for packaging the products.
