As is known, the Malaysian team withdrew from the Central Asian Championship (taking place from August 29 to September 8) because they could not call up naturalized players. They are worried that their FIFA ranking will drop if they do not play well in this tournament.

Commenting on his team's withdrawal from the tournament, coach Peter Cklamovski agreed with the decision of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) because he believed that the team should not participate in any tournament without good preparation.

Meanwhile, Bharian newspaper commented: “Harimau Malaya (the nickname of the Malaysian team) was unlucky to miss the opportunity to compete with many strong teams such as Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan. The decision of the Malaysian team to withdraw from this tournament was a difficult decision.

Coach Peter Cklamovski admitted that the team had some limitations that prevented them from participating in this tournament, although this was a golden opportunity that the team had been waiting for for a long time. He admitted that the team was forced to forget about the tournament because it was held outside the FIFA competition schedule.

The Star newspaper explained the reason for the home team’s withdrawal from the Central Asian Championship (CAFA 2025): “FAM has decided to let the Malaysian team withdraw from the CAFA 2025 due to logistical challenges. Besides, they also do not have their best stars participating in the tournament.

The fact that clubs are allowed to not release players makes it difficult for Harimau Malaya to concentrate on players playing in Europe and South America.

Coach Peter Cklamovski affirmed that he would never compromise the health of his players or enter a tournament without full strength.

SNE added: “The long travel of players, the tight schedule and the lack of a 72-hour recovery period as stipulated by FIFA will put significant pressure on the team’s logistics and operating budget, further affecting the quality of the matches. Instead of participating in the CAFA Cup, the Malaysian team will hold a training camp in September, to focus on preparing for important international matches at the end of the year against Laos and Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

FAM acknowledges that some fans may be disappointed to see Malaysia not participating in a Central Asian championship but the national team aims for long-term growth, competitiveness and sustainable performance.”

According to some sources, Singapore will replace Malaysia to compete in CAFA 2025. They will be in Group B with Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
