(Dan Tri) - Southeast Asian media was surprised by the news that athlete Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen withdrew from the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and will not participate in the world championship in Thailand.

"Breaking news. Vietnamese volleyball superstar Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen withdraws from the national team and will not attend the world championship in Thailand," headlined Thairath newspaper after the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) confirmed that athlete Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen will withdraw from the national team and will not attend the world volleyball championship taking place in Thailand from August 22 to September 7.

As reported by Dan Tri newspaper, Vietnam's volleyball team's opposite number Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen has withdrawn from the Vietnam national team and will not participate in the world volleyball championship for personal reasons.

"In this participation in the Women's Volleyball World Championship, the team will not have the service of athlete Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen. For personal reasons, Bich Tuyen has wished not to participate in this competition. VFV and the coaching staff respect the athlete's decision.

We affirm that Bich Tuyen is always an important member and always welcome her return to contribute to the team in the future when she is ready," said the VFV announcement.

"Bich Tuyen is a key factor in the victory of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team against Thailand in the final of SEA V-League 2025 (stage 2). This athlete's withdrawal will affect the Vietnamese team's chances in the world arena," Thairath newspaper emphasized.

Another Thai newspaper, Siam Sport, also carried the headline: "Vietnamese media reported that Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen withdrew from the world championship for personal reasons."

In their first participation in the world championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in Group G with Poland (ranked 3rd in the world), Germany (ranked 11th in the world) and Kenya (ranked 22nd in the world). According to the schedule, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will open against Poland (August 23) and then meet Germany (August 25) and Kenya (August 27).
