In his journey to find a way to save the country and its people in 1917, Nguyen Ai Quoc began his journalism career in France with the motive of expressing his political opinions in the mass media in his home country to fight for the independence and freedom of his people. On June 18, 1919, Nguyen Ai Quoc sent to the Versailles Conference (France) the "Demand of the Annamese People". This was an important event in the history of the struggle for independence of the Vietnamese people, when Nguyen Ai Quoc made demands for freedom, equality, and basic rights of the Annamese people under the protection of French colonialism. These demands were an important part of the struggle for independence and freedom of the country. After writing many news and short articles published in the newspaper Doi Song Tho Thuyen (La vie de'ouvriers), he wrote the polemic "The Colonial Mind" exposing the crimes of the colonial invaders. In July 1921, he and a number of revolutionaries in French colonies established the Colonial Union and published Le Paria (The Miserable). Nguyen Ai Quoc was very fond of Lenin's views: "In today's era, without a political newspaper, there can be no movement called politics", "First of all, we need a newspaper, without it we cannot systematically conduct a very principled and comprehensive propaganda and agitation", "The press is the propagandist, the agitator, the general organizer, the general leader"...

In 1924, when he returned to Guangzhou (China), he immediately began preparing to publish a political newspaper, and at the same time opened a training class for outstanding young people brought from the country to become the core of the revolution later on. In a small attic in the busiest street in the center of Guangzhou, he established the headquarters of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association and published Thanh Nien Newspaper, the first issue was published on June 21, 1925, and continued to be published regularly every week. With nearly 90 issues, Thanh Nien Newspaper completed its historic mission: to spread Marxism-Leninism among our people, actively contributing to the theoretical, political, and ideological preparation for the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam later. The publication of Thanh Nien Newspaper opened a new journalism stream - Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism. On February 3, 1930, at the conference to unify communist organizations into the Communist Party of Vietnam, chaired by comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc, a resolution on the press was passed.

The Vietnamese revolutionary press was born in the flames of the wars of national liberation, growing up with the ups and downs of the country, generations of journalists have created a glorious and proud tradition of revolutionary journalism. The most profound and sacred thing is to make revolution, to make journalism to serve the country, to serve the people, just as Uncle Ho taught: "Journalists are also revolutionary cadres. Pens and paper are their sharp weapons", "The press supports the righteous and eliminates evil". Shining with fighting spirit, during the years of resistance against invaders, the press was truly a “special” army. Many journalistic works became a call to the country, urging the entire people to rise up and save the country. Facing countless difficulties and dangers with death always near, journalists went to battle as soldiers, holding both pens and guns to fight, creating many lively journalistic works, uniting millions of people with the same goal: liberating the country. According to incomplete statistics, there were 511 journalists who died as soldiers on the front lines fighting against invaders.

The Vietnamese revolutionary press is not only a means of information but also an invaluable inspiration and spiritual strength, accompanying the process of innovation and international integration. In 40 years of innovation, the press has always been a pioneering force, encouraging new factors, promoting advanced models, creating revolutionary movements and actions in all fields, making great achievements. The press is a trustworthy forum, expressing the will, feelings, and legitimate aspirations of all classes of people, participating in contributing to the Party and the State in solving problems arising in the process of building and developing the country. The press promptly criticizes wrong viewpoints and sabotage plots of hostile forces, protects the Party's ideological foundation, creates consensus, and contributes significantly to consolidating people's trust in the Party's leadership and the path to socialism in our country. The revolutionary press has been actively and effectively participating in the fight against corruption, negativity, waste and social evils. Many journalists and press agencies have devoted themselves, courageously and resolutely fought for justice and reason, pursuing to the end to effectively handle corruption and negativity. The press is an important bridge to strengthen solidarity, contributing to raising the position of our country.

Speaking at the 9th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award Ceremony in 2024 on the evening of January 20, 2025, General Secretary To Lam assessed: “In 2025, the Vietnamese revolutionary press will be 100 years old - an important milestone marking the glorious historical journey of the Vietnamese revolutionary press accompanying the birth, growth and development of the Communist Party of Vietnam... In recent times, the press has done a very good job of propagating and widely disseminating the Party's policies and guidelines on the "new era", on the revolution of streamlining the political apparatus, making efforts to resolve and handle the "bottlenecks" that are hindering the country's development. Thereby, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has truly integrated into the flow of real life, clearly demonstrating its role in leading and accompanying the Party's great steps, spreading confidence, responsibility and aspirations for development among all classes of people. These contributions are not only the fruits of labor creativity but also a testament to the mettle, intelligence and social responsibility of the press team in carrying out its historical mission".

Entering a new era, the rapid development of information technology has opened up new opportunities for Vietnamese journalism. The application of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) by press agencies in collecting, processing and distributing information has helped improve the efficiency and quality of journalism. Journalists in the new era are sensitive, responsible, constantly improving their professional qualifications, political qualities and professional ethics, striving to become people who build and express cultural values and national culture in each press product.
