Not only a key agricultural product, lychee is gradually being "elevated" to become a unique tourism product, contributing to positioning the summer brand of the midland region.

Ripe lychees are dyeing the hillsides red in Bac Giang - the lychee capital of the country. In key areas such as Luc Ngan, Tan Yen, and Chu town, the harvest and tourism atmosphere is bustling.

Clusters of bright red lychee cover the tree canopy, creating a landscape typical of the sweet fruit season. Not only a key agricultural product, lychee is gradually being “elevated” to become a unique tourism product, contributing to positioning the summer brand of the midland region.

As the earliest ripening lychee region in the province, Tan Yen is considered the "summer gateway" of Bac Giang lychee tourism. Since mid-May, key communes such as Phuc Hoa, Cao Thuong, Tan Trung, and Hop Duc have been bustling into the harvest season. The bright red lychee clusters among the green leaves create a rich landscape, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and experience.

Tan Uyen district currently has about 1,300 hectares of lychee, with an average yield of 15,000 tons/year, mostly cultivated according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.

In addition to applying strict production processes, many households have opened gardens for tourism, organized lychee picking activities, and enjoyed the fruit on the spot, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products.

Mr. Tran Duc Hanh, a lychee grower in Thai Hoa village, Phuc Hoa commune, shared that production according to GlobalGAP standards with 65 criteria helps improve the quality of lychees, reaching out to the world market, while protecting the ecological environment. Beautiful, clean lychee gardens also attract many tourists, increasing income for local people.

Mr. Hanh added that right from the beginning of the season, his family took the initiative to clean the garden, install a roof, place signs and arrange a reception area for guests. Agricultural tourism not only promotes the Tan Yen lychee brand but also opens up new economic opportunities. This year, many groups of visitors returned, including foreigners, to learn about the farming model.

Not only locals, but also tourists have special impressions when visiting the early-ripening lychee area. The first time coming here, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh (Hanoi) expressed her excitement when she was able to pick and enjoy lychees in the garden: "I was surprised to know that the lychees here are grown according to strict processes, meeting export standards. If better promoted, this place will be an ideal destination every summer."

To effectively exploit tourism potential, Tan Yen district has coordinated with travel companies to build early lychee season tours, combining garden visits, enjoying specialties, fruit picking experiences and exploring relics such as Danh temple (Lien Chung commune), Ha communal house (Tan Trung), Phuc Son pagoda (Cao Xa)...

The district also focuses on training people to do community tourism and developing check-in points to serve tourists. Thanks to the methodical approach, over the past two years, Tan Yen has welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors during the lychee season, with tourism revenue reaching about 3 billion VND.

Mr. Ngo Quoc Hung, Chairman of Tan Yen District People's Committee affirmed that in the coming time, the district will continue to promote and exploit the tourism potential of fruit growing areas combined with cultural and historical relics, build a digital map of experience gardens, integrate with cultural and spiritual tours, contributing to the development of typical tourism products associated with the consumption of lychees and local products.

If Tan Yen opens the lychee season, Luc Ngan and Chu town are the biggest centers in terms of area, output and tourism activities. During the main season, communes and wards such as Giap Son, Thanh Hai, Hong Giang, Tan Moc… are busy harvesting. Thousands of traders and tourists flock here every day, creating a vibrant seasonal picture in the midlands.

With over 17,500 hectares of lychee, this year Luc Ngan district organized the program “Luc Ngan lychee - Quintessence of Vietnamese fruits”; Chu town implemented the program “Chu litchi ripening season” with the tour “A day as a farmer” attracting a large number of tourists. Enterprises, cooperatives and gardeners together build tours and experiential tourism routes with the goal of “bringing the market to the garden, bringing tourists home.”

Since the beginning of the season, Garden Viet Community Tourism Cooperative (Thanh Hai Ward, Chu Town) has organized dozens of domestic tourist groups to visit. The experience tours have flexible prices from 150,000-350,000 VND/person.

The representative of the Cooperative said that when visiting the lychee garden, visitors can experience lychee picking with the guidance of local people, enjoy the juicy lychees right in the garden; learn about the lychee growing profession, the current lychee production process, etc.

In addition, visitors can use lunch services, tent camping, fishing, kayaking; enjoy very special cuisine, with many delicious seasonal and regional dishes with their own flavors, famous specialties such as ant eggs, three-color sticky rice, khau nhuc, roasted pork... to meet the diverse exploration needs of visitors.

In particular, traveling on National Highway 31 through Luc Ngan-Chu these days, tourists can also admire the lychee road and lychee market with the characteristic "red shirt color".

On both sides of the road, fabric trucks line up, and the weighing point is bustling from early morning. Tourists can stop at the weighing points, take photos, check in, and learn about the processing and packaging methods. Not only a trading route, this road has become a lively experience of Bac Giang summer.

The convenience of travel and the variety of experiences have made lychee season tourism a choice for many families. After his son finished his 10th grade entrance exam, Mr. Nguyen Hoang (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) brought his whole family here to relax and experience.

“The air here is very fresh, the scenery is peaceful and close to Hanoi, so it is very convenient to go back and forth in a day. The children can directly pick lychees and learn about the process of producing clean agricultural products, which cannot be taught in books. This is a way to relax after stressful exams but also a very meaningful practical lesson,” Mr. Hoang shared.

Mr. Vu Van Thuy, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Luc Ngan district, said that every lychee season, the whole region seems to be covered in red. In recent years, Luc Ngan has organized many successful tourism events such as "Summer Fragrance" and "Luc Ngan Lychee Ripe Season", attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.

This year, the district continues to promote and train farmers in tourism, selecting beautiful gardens and production sites according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to include in the experience tour.

Localities such as Thanh Hai, Giap Son, Ho Dap, Tan Moc, and Tan Son are being prioritized for community tourism development.

Every lychee season, Bac Giang not only welcomes the sweet fruit season but also welcomes a wave of tourists to experience and explore. From a key agricultural product, lychee is gradually becoming a typical tourism product, contributing to promoting the image of the rich and friendly midland land. When lychee reaches far, it is also the time when Bac Giang takes another step on the journey of agricultural development associated with sustainable tourism./.
