At the AWS Summit Washington DC 2024 event that just took place in the US, AWS shared the company's development plans and committed to supporting startups developing generative AI (artificial intelligence).

Through the AWS Worldwide Public Sector Generative AI Impact initiative, AWS is committing $50 million over two years to help public sector organizations accelerate innovation in generative AI. This global initiative runs from June 26, 2024 through June 30, 2026.

The investment is designed to help public sector organizations and those directly supporting public sector technology needs accelerate innovation to support critical missions using AWS generative AI services and infrastructure.

Under this initiative, AWS is committing up to $50 million in AWS Promotional Credits, as well as training and technical expertise for Generative AI projects. Credits will be awarded based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the customer’s experience developing new technology solutions, the maturity of the project idea, evidence of the future applicability of the solution, and the customer’s Generative AI skill set.

This initiative is open to new or existing AWS global public sector customers and partners from enterprises around the world who are building generative AI solutions that help solve society's most pressing challenges.

Additionally, AWS is providing $10 million to advance pediatric healthcare research and better understand rare diseases. This initiative includes the new AWS IMAGINE Grant: Children's Health Innovation Award, a $7 million strategic grant that will be used to encourage proposals and fund the use of cloud-based technologies, such as generative AI, to accelerate pediatric research and improve pediatric health.

The initiative will support a broad coalition of hospitals and other organizations that use cloud computing and artificial intelligence to advance research and discovery . By managing data more efficiently in the cloud, researchers will be able to better understand the genetic makeup of diseases, leading to faster, more accurate diagnoses and more effective personalized treatment plans for patients.
