Dat Mui is a coastal commune, with 3 sides facing the sea, the only place in Vietnam that can see both the East Sea and the West Sea; the North borders Vien An commune, with a 34 km long coastline, 40 km from the district center. The commune was recognized as a type V urban area in 2021. The commune has a natural area of 14,721.69 hectares, divided into 11 hamlets, with 3,422 households and more than 13,134 people.
Mr. Vo Cong Truong, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "Since starting to implement the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, over the past 10 years, the locality has faced countless difficulties and challenges from natural conditions to limitations in infrastructure and people's lives. However, it was in these difficulties that the fire of consensus and high determination of the entire political system, along with the spirit of solidarity and joint efforts of each person, has flared up to build Dat Mui more and more beautiful."
Ms. Nguyen Hue Tuoi, Kinh Dao hamlet, said: "When there was a policy to build a new rural commune, we, the people, were very unanimous and determined to make every effort to implement criteria such as: sanitation around houses; taking advantage of water surface area to raise shrimp and crabs, applying techniques to achieve productivity and increase income...".
Up to now, Dat Mui commune has changed its appearance. The car road to the commune center has been completely paved, creating favorable conditions for people's trade and travel. More than 91% of the inter-hamlet roads have been paved. Synchronized with the road is the national grid system that has been extended to people's homes, reaching 99.5% of households using safe electricity, helping to improve the quality of life and production.

Mr. Ta Quoc Trung, Khai Long hamlet, said that not only traffic infrastructure, electricity, water, but also cultural andeducational institutions are given synchronous attention. Those changes are present in each project, each statistical figure, showing the people's satisfaction with the new rural area of Dat Mui today.
Possessing a special attraction from its sacred geographical location and unique ecosystem, Dat Mui is gradually affirming its position as an unmissable destination on the Vietnam tourism map. With 2 key tourist areas, Dat Mui welcomes over 150 thousand visitors every year to visit and experience.
Among them, the Mui Ca Mau National Tourist Area is a place where symbolic works bearing the mark of history and culture converge. Coming here, visitors cannot help but be moved when standing in front of the National Coordinate Marker GPS 0001 - the sacred sovereignty marker; or the Ho Chi Minh Trail milestone - the final point of the legendary road; the symbolic image of a ship proudly heading out to sea, like the country's aspiration to reach far; Lac Long Quan Temple and the majestic Statue of Mother Au Co remind us of the nation's roots. Another meaningful highlight is the Hanoi Flag Tower standing tall in the middle of the Southern sky and land, symbolizing the unity of the country.
Ca Mau Cape National Tourist Area is a place where iconic structures bearing historical and cultural imprints converge, attracting tourists.
In addition to the unique architectural works, the rich mangrove ecosystem, with its vast mangrove forests and winding canals, is the unmistakable "specialty" of Dat Mui tourism. Mr. Quach Van Ngai, Con Mui hamlet, confided: "Imagine a pristine morning, you can watch the sun slowly rise from the sea, dyeing a large area pink; or when the sunset falls, the evening light gilds the deep green mangrove forests, creating a majestic and romantic natural picture".
With 11 effectively operating cooperatives, the close connection between production and consumption not only creates a sustainable value chain but also helps local agricultural products have stable output, minimizing risks for people. The results in 2024, clearly shown through the average income per capita reaching 64.42 million VND, along with the poverty rate sharply decreasing to 1.11%, the lowest in the whole district - proving the comprehensive and sustainable development of the commune.
Mr. Tang Thien Tinh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, affirmed: "Building Dat Mui commune to meet the new rural standards is not only the result of faith and aspiration, but also a solid stepping stone to overcome challenges and seize development opportunities from important national projects invested in the commune such as the Dat Mui - Ca Mau expressway and Hon Khoai deep-water port, so that Dat Mui can rise up and create new momentum in all fields. Dat Mui, the place known as "the land that knows how to bloom, the forest that knows how to walk", is standing on the threshold of a promising era of economic development".
On June 3, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the implementation of national target programs in the province, Chairman of the Appraisal Council, recognized Dat Mui commune (Ngoc Hien district) as meeting the NTM standards in 2024. As a result, Dat Mui commune had 19/20 members present in agreement (reaching 95%). Comparing with the regulations, Dat Mui commune met the conditions to be recognized as a commune meeting the NTM standards.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to urgently coordinate with the People's Committee of Ngoc Hien district to complete the dossier and procedures in accordance with regulations, and submit them to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and recognition.
