Tropical depression likely to become strong storm, causing heavy rain from Thanh Hoa to Hue

ĐNO - According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the afternoon of August 22, the center of the tropical depression was located on the mainland of Luzon Island (Philippines) with the strongest wind at level 6-7, gusting to level 9 and moving west-northwest at a speed of 10-15km/hour.

The tropical depression is forecast to continue moving into the East Sea and is likely to strengthen into a storm.

At 1:00 p.m. on August 23, the center of the storm was at about 17.5 degrees north latitude, 116.9 degrees east longitude, in the eastern area of ​​the North East Sea, about 520km east-northeast of Hoang Sa special zone, with the strongest wind at level 8-9, gusting to level 11.

The storm then changed direction, moving mainly west at a speed of about 20km/h and is likely to strengthen.

The tropical depression later strengthened into a storm, the eastern area of ​​the North East Sea had showers and thunderstorms, strong winds of level 6-7, later increasing to level 8; the area near the storm center had level 9, gusts of level 11, waves 3-5m high, very rough seas.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from August 25, the sea area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang will have strong storm winds of level 8, near the storm center of level 11-12, gusting to level 15.

The storm's circulation is very wide, affecting the coast of the North and North Central regions; the coastal area from Nghe An to Quang Tri will be the main area affected by the storm's circulation; the coast has strong winds of level 10-11, gusting to level 13-14.

From the night of August 24 to the end of August 27, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue experienced heavy to very heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 150 - 300mm, with some places over 600mm.

A flood has occurred on rivers from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri. There is a risk of flash floods, landslides and inundation in low-lying areas, riverbanks and urban areas in the provinces in the above region.

Localities need to proactively deploy flood prevention plans; review residents in dangerous areas; ensure the safety of reservoirs and works...

* The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Da Nang City has just issued a document requesting departments, branches, localities and units to proactively respond to the tropical depression and be on guard against continued thunderstorms in the city, especially in the afternoon and evening; during thunderstorms, be on guard against tornadoes, lightning, hail, localized heavy rain and strong gusts of wind.

The City Military Command, the City Border Guard Command, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Da Nang Coastal Information Station, the Department of Sea, Islands and Fisheries, coastal localities and relevant units monitor and promptly notify owners of vehicles and boats operating at sea of ​​information on tropical depressions to proactively avoid them. The City Border Guard Command proactively manages boats going out to sea.

Armed forces units, departments, branches, localities and relevant units closely monitor the development of tropical depressions and daily weather reports, warnings of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning... to proactively handle possible situations.
