According to the Times of India, on January 9, in addition to deploying warships, the Indian Navy also deployed Marine Corps Commandos (MARCOS). Officials noted that the Indian Navy is a permanent force in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), will do whatever it takes to protect India's national interests, while facilitating global trade in the region in a free, fair and open manner.

The Indian Navy is also working closely with maritime agencies of other countries to monitor the overall situation and ensure safety of merchant vessels. The Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram, which houses international liaison officers from over a dozen countries, chaired by India, is also on alert.

Since October 2008, India has also regularly deployed warships to patrol against piracy in Aden, up to about 110 ships.
