After the National Assembly passed the Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025, the country has 34 provinces and cities; 29 provinces less than before.
Immediately afterwards, the National Assembly Standing Committee also issued 34 Resolutions on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units. Notably, the 23 newly formed provinces and cities after the merger have some wards bearing the names of most of the old provinces before the merger.
Besides, the names of some provinces such as Quang Nam, Dak Nong , Quang Binh, Ninh Thuan, Tien Giang, Hau Giang, Kien Giang do not appear in the names of wards and communes of the 23 provinces and cities after the merger.
Tuyen Quang province has wards Ha Giang 1 and Ha Giang 2.
Tuyen Quang province has a total of 124 commune-level administrative units (117 communes, 7 wards).
Tuyen Quang has wards Ha Giang 1 and Ha Giang 2 formed from the merger of wards and communes of Ha Giang city (old Ha Giang province).
Ward Ha Giang 1: Merge Nguyen Trai ward, Phuong Thien commune, Phuong Do commune, part of Quang Trung ward.
Ward Ha Giang 2: Merge wards Ngoc Ha, Tran Phu, Minh Khai, the remaining part of Quang Trung ward, Phong Quang commune.
Lao Cai province has Yen Bai ward
Lao Cai province has a total of 99 commune-level administrative units after the merger, including 89 communes and 10 wards.
Lao Cai has Yen Bai ward formed from the merger of Dong Tam, Yen Ninh, Minh Tan, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hong Ha wards of Yen Bai city (old Yen Bai province).
Thai Nguyen province has Bac Kan ward
Thai Nguyen province has a total of 92 commune-level administrative units after the merger, including 77 communes and 15 wards.
Thai Nguyen has Bac Kan ward, formed from the merger of Song Cau, Phung Chi Kien, Xuat Hoa wards and Nong Thuong commune of Bac Kan city (old Bac Kan province).
Hai Phong city has Hai Duong ward
Hai Phong city has a total of 114 commune-level administrative units (67 communes, 45 wards, 2 special zones).

Nam Dinh Ward: Merge Quang Trung, Vi Xuyen, Loc Vuong, Cua Bac, Tran Hung Dao, Nang Tinh, Cua Nam wards and My Phuc commune of Nam Dinh city (old Nam Dinh province).
Ha Nam Ward: Merge Lam Ha Ward, Tan Hiep Ward, part of Quang Trung Ward (Phu Ly City), the remaining part of Hoang Dong Ward, and the remaining part of Tien Noi Ward, Tien Ngoai Commune of the old Ha Nam Province.
Phu Tho province has Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh wards.
Phu Tho has a total of 148 commune-level administrative units (133 communes, 15 wards). Including Vinh Phuc, Vinh Yen, Phuc Yen, and Hoa Binh wards.

Phuc Yen Ward: Merge Hung Vuong, Hai Ba Trung, Phuc Thang, Tien Chau, Nam Viem wards (Phuc Yen city, old Vinh Phuc province).
Hoa Binh Ward: Merge Dong Tien, Huu Nghi, Phuong Lam, Quynh Lam, Tan Thinh, Thinh Lang, Trung Minh wards (Hoa Binh city, old Hoa Binh province).
Da Nang city has Tam Ky ward
Da Nang City has a total of 94 commune-level administrative units, including 23 wards, 70 communes and 1 special zone (Hoang Sa).
Although Da Nang does not have a ward named Quang Nam, there is a ward named Tam Ky, reminiscent of Quang Nam province after the merger.
Da Nang City was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population size of An My, An Xuan, and Truong Xuan wards of Tam Ky city (former Quang Nam province).
Quang Tri province has Dong Hoi ward
Quang Tri province has a total of 78 commune-level administrative units (69 communes, 8 wards, 1 special zone).
Although after the merger, Quang Tri did not have a ward named Quang Binh, Dong Hoi ward was formed on the basis of merging Duc Ninh Dong, Dong Hai, Dong Phu, Phu Hai, Hai Thanh, Nam Ly wards and Bao Ninh and Duc Ninh communes (Dong Hoi city, old Quang Binh province).
Quang Ngai province has Kon Tum ward
Of the total 96 commune-level administrative units (86 communes, 9 wards, 1 special zone), Quang Ngai province has Kon Tum ward based on the merger of Quang Trung, Quyet Thang, Thang Loi, Truong Chinh, Thong Nhat wards (Kon Tum city, former Kon Tum province).
Khanh Hoa province has Phan Rang ward
Khanh Hoa province has a total of 65 commune-level administrative units (48 communes, 16 wards, 1 special zone).
Although Khanh Hoa does not have Ninh Thuan ward, it has Phan Rang ward formed from Kinh Dinh, Phu Ha, Dai Son, Dao Long wards (Phan Rang - Thap Cham city, old Ninh Thuan province).
In addition, Khanh Hoa has wards named after famous places such as Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa.
Gia Lai province has Quy Nhon ward

Lam Dong province has Binh Thuan ward
Total number of commune-level administrative units after merger: 124 units, including 103 communes, 20 wards, and 1 special zone (Phu Quy Special Zone).

The name Dak Nong province is not included in any ward or commune names of the new Lam Dong province.

In the total of 95 commune-level administrative units after the merger (72 communes and 23 wards), Dong Nai province has Binh Phuoc ward formed from Tan Phu, Tan Dong, Tan Thien, Tan Binh, Tan Xuan wards, Tien Hung commune of Dong Xoai city (old Binh Phuoc province).
Ho Chi Minh City has Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau wards.
Ho Chi Minh City has a total of 168 commune-level administrative units (113 wards, 54 communes, 1 special zone). Of which, Ho Chi Minh City has wards of Binh Duong, Ba Ria, Vung Tau, which are the names of 2 old provinces that were merged. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City also has some notable wards such as: Saigon, Thu Duc, Thu Dau Mot.

In the total of 96 commune-level administrative units after the merger (82 communes and 14 wards), Tay Ninh has Long An ward formed from ward 1 and ward 3 (Tan An city), ward 4, ward 5, ward 6, Huong Tho Phu commune, the remaining part of Binh Thanh commune (Thu Thua district) of the old Long An province.
Kien Tuong Ward: Formed from the merger of Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3 of Kien Tuong town (old Long An province).
Dong Thap province has My Tho ward
Dong Thap province has a total of 102 commune-level administrative units after the merger, including 82 communes and 20 wards.
Although there is no ward named Tien Giang, Dong Thap has My Tho ward formed from ward 1, ward 2, Tan Long of My Tho city (old Tien Giang province).
Vinh Long province has Tra Vinh and Ben Tre wards.
In total 124 commune-level administrative units (105 communes, 19 wards), Vinh Long province has Tra Vinh and Ben Tre wards.
Tra Vinh Ward: Established from Ward 1, Ward 3, Ward 9 (Tra Vinh city, old Tra Vinh province).

Can Tho City has a total of 103 commune-level administrative units, including 31 wards and 72 communes.
Notably, Can Tho has wards of Vi Thanh, Long My, and Soc Trang.
Vi Thanh Ward: Established on the basis of merging wards 1, 2, and 7 of Vi Thanh city (former Hau Giang province).
Long My Ward: Established on the basis of merging Thuan An ward, Long Tri commune and Long Tri A commune of Long My town (old Hau Giang province).

An Giang province has Rach Gia ward
An Giang province has a total of 102 commune-level administrative units (85 communes, 14 wards, 3 special zones: Kien Hai, Phu Quoc, Tho Chau).
An Giang does not have Kien Giang ward but has Rach Gia ward which was formed from the merger of Vinh Quang, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Thanh Van, Vinh Lac, An Hoa, Vinh Hiep, An Binh, Rach Soi, Vinh Loi wards (belonging to Rach Gia city, old Kien Giang province). Rach Gia ward is the ward with the largest population in the country.
Ca Mau province has Bac Lieu ward
Ca Mau province has a total of 64 commune-level administrative units (55 communes, 9 wards).
