Thanks to music , Doan Cat Tuong (Ward 3, Tan An City) has become more bold and confident.
Spiritual "medicine" to soothe sadness
Music with the harmony of instruments and lyrics is like a spiritual "medicine" that soothes sadness, inspires hope and connects hearts in harmony . Music also brings moments of relaxation after tiring hours of work, study and work.
As a teacher with many years of experience teaching music, Ms. Luong Thi Thanh Huong (Ward 4, Tan An City, Long An Province) always believes that "music has the mission to heal the soul". For children with autism, depression, ... Ms. Huong often supports as a companion, guiding them according to each level. Thanks to the unique teaching method, students have a good sense of music and gradually become more open and sociable, including Doan Cat Tuong (Ward 3, Tan An City).
Ms. Ton Thi Thanh Thuy - Cat Tuong's mother, remembers clearly the days when her daughter was withdrawn, shy, and had little interaction with people around her. Afraid that her daughter would be depressed, she decided to send her to swimming lessons, but the results were not positive . In her journey to find a method to help her child develop more comprehensively, Ms. Thuy happened to read scientific research on the positive effects of music on children's intellectual and emotional development. Therefore, she sent Cat Tuong to learn piano.
At first, Cat Tuong studied 1-on-1 with her teacher in a private room, without much contact with other students. After 3 years, she revealed her musical talent and found joy in the notes. From a girl who avoided other people's eyes, Cat Tuong became more confident in communicating and expressing herself. Thanks to her ability to feel music and rhythm, she was trusted by her teachers to hold important positions in the school's art programs.
Talking about her child's changes, Ms. Thuy said: "Before, my child did not talk to anyone, and when he got home, he just stayed in his room. There was a time when I was afraid that my child would be depressed, have anxiety disorder ,... but since being exposed to music, he has become active and confident. Now, he can perform and tell stories about Uncle Ho in front of the whole school."
In addition to the ups and downs of the musical instruments, the sympathetic and sharing lyrics are also effective healing therapies. As a young musician with many widely received charity compositions such as "Please Give Me Away" and "My Heart Sings", musician Pham Ha believes: "Music is not only art but also a "bridge" between hearts. Every song I write, especially the songs with the spirit of sharing, comes from genuine emotions towards difficult lives. Through music, listeners not only find sympathy and ease their sadness, but also spread love and kindness to the community."
Connecting communities, transmitting positive values
Mr. Phan Nguyen Trong Nhan (Phuoc Ly commune, Can Giuoc district) is passionate about the monochord. For him, music is an effective therapy to heal the soul.
Graduated from the Traditional Instrument Performance major of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, Phan Nguyen Trong Nhan (Phuoc Ly Commune, Can Giuoc District) has a passion for traditional musical instruments, especially the monochord. “The person who inspired me the most is my grandfather. In the past, my grandfather played the violin and often played traditional Southern music,” Nhan shared.
But tragedy struck in 2020 when Nhan's grandfather passed away. The great loss left the young man disoriented, withdrawn and almost giving up. Memories of family evenings gathered around his grandfather's warm violin and his caring teachings were just sad films slowly passing through his mind.
During those sad days, the power of music pulled him back to life. He started listening to old songs, learning about healing sound waves, vibrational frequencies that can soothe the soul such as 174Hz, 285Hz,...
Thanks to music, he clearly felt a positive change in his spirit, thereby improving his health, reducing anxiety and insomnia. Not only finding healing, Mr. Nhan also spreads positive energy to the community by teaching music, transmitting the love of music to young people, especially those with psychological problems.
Mr. Le Anh Khoi (Tan Tru town, Tan Tru district) is passionate about researching amateur music.
Sharing the same thought with Mr. Nhan, Mr. Le Anh Khoi (Tan Tru town, Tan Tru district) also wishes to connect the community through music. Instead of expressing himself through lyrics, singing or melodious playing, Mr. Khoi devotes his heart to researching traditional music, discovering the cultural layers hidden in the melodies.
As a member of the Southern Melody Club since 2018, he has had the opportunity to learn from experienced artists, access audio documents, and valuable records of the history and techniques of Don Ca Tai Tu. Immersing himself in the traditional art space, listening to stories told through sound, and learning about the cultural life and soul of the ancient Southern people through each melody helps his soul become more relaxed and gentle.
In addition, both Mr. Nhan and Mr. Khoi actively participate in workshops on healing music, and visit nursing homes to exchange music with elderly artists. Each time they visit, the two of them and their friends bring along musical instruments, songs, and familiar melodies to share and encourage the elderly, helping them to be happier and healthier in life.
In today's context, music is increasingly proving its role in healing and connecting people. From reducing stress and anxiety to evoking beautiful memories and connecting people, music is truly a natural, safe and effective "therapy"./.
