On July 29, 108 Military Central Hospital announced that it had successfully performed surgery to remove a giant facial tumor for free for VTTT, born in 2009, Mong ethnic group, living in Pung Luong commune, Lao Cai (formerly Yen Bai ).

Since childhood, T. has lacked the love of her parents and lived with her grandparents. The mandibular ameloblastoma disease developed day by day, disfiguring her face, hindering her daily activities, and severely affecting her spirit and quality of life. However, because her family's circumstances were too difficult, she could not afford treatment.

On July 10, thanks to the help of philanthropists, T. was taken to the 108 Military Central Hospital. Upon admission, the doctors determined that this was a complicated case. With the cost of treatment beyond the family's ability to pay, the hospital decided to perform the surgery completely free of charge for T.

The surgery was performed on July 28, after a thorough assessment and reconstruction of the lesion using modern 3D printing technology. With a tumor measuring 15x10x6cm and destroying nearly 2/3 of the lower jawbone, this was a major professional challenge.

Doctors chose advanced microsurgical techniques, taking the fibula from the patient's leg to reconstruct the lost lower jawbone, to restore facial shape and create the premise for future dental implants.

For 9 consecutive hours, the surgical team of 7 doctors, working closely with the anesthesia team and nurses, successfully performed surgery and removed the tumor on the patient's face.

After surgery, T. received intensive care at the hospital, her health gradually stabilized, and her face somewhat regained its original elegance.

Doctor Nguyen Quang Duc, director of the Center for Craniofacial and Plastic Surgery, 108 Central Military Hospital, shared that this was a very complicated major surgery, with both aesthetic and functional factors and a high risk of blood loss, but the doctors did not hesitate.

The successful surgery not only helped T. avoid future complications but also gave her the opportunity to live a life true to her age and integrate into the community.
