On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), Congressman Pedro Vázquez - Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Mexican House of Representatives, expressed his deep admiration for the proud historical journey of the Vietnamese people.

He affirmed that the August Revolution in 1945 and the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) was a great historical milestone, opening an era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people, and at the same time was a source of inspiration for the national liberation movement in the world .

Speaking to a VNA reporter in Mexico, Congressman Vázquez affirmed that Vietnam has written an inspiring story: from a country that was once heavily devastated by war, Vietnam has risen strongly, affirming its position on the global political and economic map.

That achievement is not only the crystallization of the Vietnamese people's indomitable will, intelligence and patriotism, but also a vivid demonstration of the strategic vision of the Communist Party of Vietnam in smoothly combining national independence with socialism.

According to Mr. Vázquez, after gaining independence, Vietnam went through many fierce challenges to protect sovereignty, unify the country and restore the economy.

In the post-war period, in the context of overcoming the consequences of war and facing siege and embargo, Vietnam remained steadfast on the path of innovation, economic reform and international integration.

The 1986 Doi Moi policy opened a new development period, transforming Vietnam from a centrally planned economy to a dynamic and integrated socialist-oriented market economy.

Today, Vietnam has become one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with per capita GDP increasing nearly 40 times compared to the early days of Doi Moi.

Vietnam’s image is no longer associated with war but is a symbol of peace, cooperation and development. Vietnam is also the world’s leading exporter of many key products such as electronics, textiles, agricultural products, and is an attractive destination for international investors thanks to its stable political environment, young workforce and strong open-door policy.

On the international level, Vietnam has participated and assumed many important responsibilities in multilateral organizations, from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to the United Nations (UN).

According to Mr. Vázquez, Vietnam's voice is increasingly important, clearly demonstrating its steadfast stance on independence, self-reliance, respect for international law and promotion of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation. Vietnam not only protects national interests but also actively contributes to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Congressman Pedro Vázquez said that the friendship between Vietnam and Mexico is also a vivid demonstration of the vitality of the noble values that Vietnam pursues. Although the two countries are geographically distant, they are close in their aspirations for independence, equality and sustainable development.

He appreciated the increasingly deep cooperation between the two countries, from politics-diplomacy, trade, culture, education to medical and scientific cooperation.

Looking back on the 80-year journey, Mr. Vázquez believes that Vietnam has entered a new stage of development with many open opportunities. The combination of national character, rich cultural foundation and correct development strategy will continue to take Vietnam further, becoming a high-income country, contributing more to peace, cooperation and progress in the world.

Mr. Vázquez also expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s social achievements. From a country with a low starting point, Vietnam has significantly reduced multidimensional poverty, expanded access to education and health care, ensured social security and narrowed the development gap between regions.

In addition, Vietnam is also recognized by the international community as a bright spot in responding to climate change, developing renewable energy and preserving biodiversity.

In addition, in the context of a rapidly changing world, Vietnam continues to be an example of steadfastness in principles and flexibility in international behavior. Congressman Vázquez believes that Vietnam's experience in combining independence and autonomy with deep integration, economic development, and ensuring social justice is a valuable lesson for many countries, especially in the Latin American region.

From the perspective of a Mexican friend who has a lot of sympathy for Vietnam, Mr. Vázquez believes that Vietnam's success is a story about the power of belief, the will to be self-reliant and the aspiration to rise up for the happiness of the people. He believes that, with the current development momentum, Vietnam will continue to play an increasingly important role in shaping the regional and global situation.

Closing the conversation, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Mexican House of Representatives affirmed that the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day is not only an occasion for the Vietnamese people to be proud of their glorious past, but also an opportunity for international friends, including Mexico, to look to a future of cooperation, solidarity and together cultivate noble human values.

And in the hearts of distant friends like him, Vietnam always appears as a resilient, benevolent and aspirational country, ready to continue writing golden pages of history on the road towards the future.
