There are challenges women may face while traveling alone. Here are four things they should know before they go on their solo trip.

Safety “experts”

When traveling alone, especially to an unfamiliar place, young women can easily encounter safety “experts”. These people can be anyone, regardless of gender, but most are strangers that tourists meet on the road.

These “experts” often try to start conversations and warn about the dangers of tourist destinations based on stories they hear or read without any verification.

Although born of concern and effort to help, these unfounded and unexperienced sharing can leave visitors feeling redundant and somewhat frustrated.

Female travelers can end the conversation by thanking them for their concern, or letting them know they are equipped to protect themselves and will contact them later if they need travel advice.

Reactions when going to a restaurant alone

When traveling, local restaurants are a must-visit destination, especially for foodies . However, it seems that the more upscale the restaurant, the more likely diners are to feel insecure or awkward when dining alone. Female diners may be constantly asked if they are waiting for someone, forced to give up their table to a couple who arrives later, or subjected to pitying stares and whispers from waiters and other diners.

To avoid awkward situations and enjoy your meal, you can choose to experience fancy restaurants at lunch and go to more casual eateries for dinner. Dining alone during the day seems more comfortable than in the crowded evening with many prying eyes.

Decision fatigue

Traveling alone can be a double-edged sword as the traveler is responsible and makes all the decisions. Over time, any traveler can feel decision fatigue, especially for women on a solo adventure. They may be faced with mentally taxing questions like whether to trust a flirtatious taxi driver, whether it is safe to walk home alone after dark, etc.

To avoid making travel a challenge for endurance, women should take at least one day off every week and one week every two months. Use this time to relax in a safe place without planning any excursions.

Difficulties when traveling in groups

If you have experienced the freedom of choice that comes with traveling alone, group travel can be difficult. You may feel overwhelmed by having to schedule vacations and plan trips with others. When traveling in a group, decision-making takes a lot of time and often results in compromises and even frustration.

To avoid endless debates, travelers can choose destinations they have visited before. This way, they will not face the pressure of traveling “the right way”. At the same time, there will always be something new to discover , experience or learn at the destination without worrying about boredom.
