On July 26, the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province to organize a conference to review the management and connection of safe agricultural product consumption between the two localities.
The conference aims to evaluate the results of the project to build a model for food management according to the safe chain in 2024, and at the same time open up opportunities for businesses to exchange solutions to bring safe agricultural products of Lam Dong to more widely consumers in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to information at the conference, Lam Dong currently supplies up to 90% of the total output of the fruit and vegetable chain and nearly 7% of the output of the pork chain for Ho Chi Minh City, affirming the important role of the province in ensuring a stable and safe food supply for the city.
Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, emphasized: "Cooperation with 15 provinces and cities is a long-term strategy, in which Lam Dong was selected for the first preliminary review because of its outstanding contributions to the city's safe food supply."
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, said the province currently has more than 107,000 hectares of high-tech agricultural production and nearly 150,000 hectares certified for safe production.
The province also has more than 960 export growing area codes with a total area of over 39,000 hectares, demonstrating the strong competitiveness of Lam Dong agricultural products in the international market.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Quy Tu, Head of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development of Lam Dong province, said that the project to build a food safety chain has made great strides, from 5 participating establishments in 2024 to 18 establishments in 2025.
In 2024, the output will reach over 2,800 tons of vegetables and fruits and 1,330 tons of pork/year, this number will increase sharply in 2025 with nearly 20,000 tons of vegetables and fruits and more than 8,000 tons of pork/year.

Representatives of Binh Dien market discussed Lam Dong agricultural products being consumed at the market. Accordingly, the quality of Lam Dong agricultural products is increasingly guaranteed when the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has deployed the collection of 332 samples of vegetables, tubers, and fruits originating from Lam Dong province to test for pesticide residues, the results showed that 331 samples were safe, only 1 sample was detected with pesticide residues exceeding the prescribed level.
On the Ho Chi Minh City side, Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan pledged to continue to closely coordinate with Lam Dong in quality control, creating conditions for the province's agricultural products to be more widely present in the largest market in the South.
Delegates attending the conference also discussed enthusiastically and suggested many solutions to develop trade, increase value and expand the market for safe agricultural products from the highlands to the people of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger.
Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan said that the city has controlled food safety risks in the area and has proactive plans to deal with future risks.
The city after the merger will increase in area and population, so the Department will pay attention to the characteristics of the localities. For example, Binh Duong (old) will focus a lot on workers' meals because there are dozens of industrial parks and export processing zones.
In the coming time, according to Ms. Lan, Ho Chi Minh City and localities will continue to closely coordinate in developing, organizing the signing and implementing cooperation plans, especially focusing on promoting the consumption of agricultural products, key products, regional specialties, OCOP products... with traceability to consumers in the city.
