For 3 consecutive years, many medical centers in Ho Chi Minh City still cannot recruit young doctors.

For three consecutive years, at the job fair organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, many medical centers in the suburbs and far from the city center were still "empty-handed" due to the lack of doctors applying.

Many places "do well" when they recruit enough doctors.

On August 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health organized a Job Fair for young doctors at the Can Gio District Medical Center with the participation of 73 medical facilities across the city.

This is the third time the festival has been held, with 158 doctors who have just completed the 3rd year of practice program in 2025 and attracted 200 freelance doctors looking for suitable jobs with 381 recruitment positions as required.

This is also the first year with the participation of medical facilities from Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old) such as: Vung Tau Medical Center, Phu My Medical Center, Lung Hospital - Pham Huu Tri, Bau Bang Medical Center... At the festival, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also awarded certificates of merit to 5 volunteer doctors working at the medical station.

According to Tuoi Tre Online, by around 10am, many hospitals and medical centers in the inner city were "doing well" when they had recruited enough or had doctors registered after 2 years of not being able to recruit, such as: District 12 Medical Center, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, Mental Hospital, Blood Transfusion Hematology Hospital...

Doctor Ngo Cao Dung - Deputy Director of Hoc Mon District Medical Center - said that this year the center recruited 7 doctors, but by about 10 o'clock the unit had recruited 3 doctors.

"In previous years, the hospital could not recruit any doctors. This year, we recruited 7 doctors with the hope of only recruiting 3 doctors. We have achieved our target, so we are very happy," said Dr. Dung.

Similarly, at Binh Chanh District Medical Center, the recruitment target was 4 general practitioners, but by 10:30, the unit had recruited 2 doctors. Unlike two years ago, despite the eager call for young doctors, they were only able to recruit 1 doctor.

In the form for choosing the two young doctors, it was clearly stated "I want to work at the health station" and "I want to work at the Tan Nhut commune health station".

Doctor Nguyen Thi Thu - Deputy Director of Binh Chanh District Medical Center - happily shared: "Doctors are increasingly paying more attention to grassroots healthcare. Currently, the only doctor who previously worked at the medical center is still working and doing his job well."

Many places are still "empty-handed" for 3 consecutive years

Besides many medical centers and hospitals that are happy and excited to recruit doctors during the job fair, many medical centers, mainly in suburban areas such as Can Gio and Cu Chi, are still "empty-handed" after 3 consecutive years of recruitment.

However, this is not a big concern. Representatives of these units said that after attending the job fair twice, doctors were more interested in the unit and applied immediately after.

Doctor Tran Ninh Bao Thi - Deputy Director of Can Gio District Medical Center - said this is the third consecutive year the unit has failed to recruit doctors at the job fair.

However, this year, the number of young doctors interested in the unit has increased significantly. In the morning of the same day, 15-16 doctors contacted, left their information and said they would contact them after the festival.

"In previous years, although they did not get the position they wanted, more than 10 doctors later registered to work at the medical center. We support them as much as possible. In addition to the city's subsidy, the doctors will be able to stay at the unit," said Dr. Thi.

Similarly, Dr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Deputy Director of Cu Chi Medical Center - said that according to the needs of the Medical Center, the unit is in need of 24 doctors. However, at today's job fair, the number of doctors who came to talk directly was not much, only about 3 people.

Doctors mainly come to learn information, listen to benefits and policies, then go home to consider further and contact again. Compared to last year, the number of interested people has increased, showing that the level of attention of the grassroots health sector is increasing.
