Accordingly, as of August 15, the banking industry had more than 124 million bank accounts collected and compared biometric information, reaching 100% of the total number of payment accounts of individual customers generating transactions on digital channels; for institutional customers, biometric information was compared for more than 1.3 million records, reaching 100% of the total number of payment accounts of institutional customers generating transactions on digital channels.
The results were clear: the number of fraud cases decreased by more than 59%, and the number of fraud-related accounts decreased by 52% compared to before.
The National Credit Information Center (CIC) also coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to complete 6 data cleaning rounds with about 57 million records.
In addition, most banks and intermediary organizations have deployed chip-based citizen identification card applications at counters, on digital banking applications and are expanding VNeID integration.
In the first 7 months of 2025, non-cash transactions increased by more than 44% in volume and 25% in value compared to the same period last year. Notably, transactions via QR Code increased by nearly 160% in value. Meanwhile, transactions via ATM decreased by nearly 16% in volume, showing that the trend of cash withdrawals is increasingly giving way to electronic payments.
Recently, to serve the payment of gifts on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, the State Bank of Vietnam directed 28 banks and 4 intermediary units to link with VNeID, ensuring the payment system operates safely 24/7.
In particular, the interbank electronic payment system is also maintained throughout the holiday to ensure timely and continuous payments to people.
