Looking back at the first 5 months of 2025, the province's export activities faced many difficulties. The slow recovery of major economies , along with the new policy of the US Government - one of the key markets for many of the province's export products, posed many challenges. However, with the support, attention, and timely direction from central ministries and branches, along with the drastic participation of the Provincial People's Committee, especially the proactiveness and flexibility of the business community, the province's export picture still achieved positive results. The province's export turnover reached 417 million USD, up 2.81% over the same period. In addition, import turnover also reached 258 million USD, up 3.53% over the same period. Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung affirmed: "With the close direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee, together with the support of departments, branches and sectors and the outstanding efforts of enterprises, we have maintained the growth momentum. This is a positive signal, showing the resilience and development potential of An Giang's economy."
In the general picture of exports, many key products of the province recorded impressive growth, contributing significantly to the total turnover of the province. In particular, seafood continues to affirm its role as a key economic sector of the province. It is estimated that the export output of seafood in the first 5 months of 2025 reached 58,000 tons, equivalent to 113.5 million USD. It is worth noting the impressive growth in both volume and turnover, with an increase of 7.86% in volume and 10.41% in turnover over the same period. This growth shows the ability to adapt and overcome technical and trade barriers of seafood enterprises in the province. Ms. Le Thi Hong (owner of a pangasius farm in Long Xuyen City) happily said: “At first, we were worried about the output market, but thanks to the support of the industry and localities in updating market information and efforts to improve product quality, our pangasius is still well received by our partners. Stable selling prices give us more motivation to reproduce.”
However, the province's rice exports in the first 5 months of the year are estimated at 46,800 tons, equivalent to 24.5 million USD, only 30% of the same period in value. The current rice market is very competitive, with prices fluctuating unpredictably. 5% broken rice is currently priced at 395 USD/ton, 25% broken rice is 369 USD/ton. However, Japanese rice is not much affected by price competition and maintains a fairly high export price of 931 USD/ton. This shows the potential for diversifying rice products, focusing on specialty, high-quality rice varieties with greater economic value.
In addition, An Giang 's frozen fruit and vegetable industry had an amazing breakthrough in the first 5 months of 2025. Export turnover reached 32.5 million USD from 48,000 tons of products, up 34.77% over the same period. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (a farmer specializing in growing clean vegetables in My Hoa Hung commune, Long Xuyen city) happily said: "Previously, we were worried about the output of vegetables when harvesting. But since the investment of frozen processing factories, our products have been guaranteed, prices have been much more stable. The quality of An Giang's vegetables and fruits is highly appreciated, opening up many opportunities for farmers". Two traditional industries of An Giang, garment and footwear, also recorded impressive growth. The export turnover of garments (clothes) reached 103.4 million USD, up 27.27% over the same period. Meanwhile, footwear exports reached 105.9 million USD, up 28.35% over the same period.
Despite the encouraging results, the road ahead is still full of challenges. The world economic situation still has many uncertainties, and trade policies may continue to change. To maintain growth momentum and sustainable development, An Giang needs to continue to implement synchronous solutions. First, it is necessary to continue to promote trade promotion activities, diversify export markets, not only focusing on traditional markets but also expanding to other potential markets. At the same time, encourage enterprises to invest in science and technology , improve competitiveness, create products with high added value; focus on developing high-quality human resources, meeting the requirements of international integration. Finally, continue to improve the investment and business environment, creating the most favorable conditions for enterprises to develop.
