On June 26, the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) announced the results of the implementation of the Peak Month against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the food sector, taking place from May 17 to June 17.
Through inspections of 17 establishments producing and trading functional foods, authorities discovered many violations related to production conditions, labeling, advertising and e-commerce activities.
The Food Safety Department has issued 9 official dispatches to management agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, and the Hanoi Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, regarding coordination, inspection, and handling of information related to illegal advertising activities of influential individuals on social networks. In particular, together with competent agencies, it will handle information related to weight loss products promoted by the accounts "Ngan 98" and "Ngan Collagen."
The Food Safety Department also sent an official dispatch to the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) requesting to handle the fanpage named "Genuine Hoang Huong Meli Pharmaceuticals" for misleading advertising of functional foods without a certificate of advertising content as prescribed.
In addition, the Department has sent 6 official dispatches to Shopee Company Limited and Lazada Vietnam E-commerce Company Limited, requesting the removal of products that do not have a Certificate of Registration of Public Announcement that are being publicly sold on these e-commerce platforms.
The results of direct inspections in many localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Da Nang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau... showed that there were 4 establishments not operating at the registered address, 1 establishment violating labeling, 2 establishments advertising false content, and 1 establishment violating 4 acts in the production and trading of functional foods.
The Food Safety Department has transferred all information about violations to the Department of Finance of relevant provinces and cities for handling according to regulations. At the same time, the Department continues to complete the draft Decree amending Decree 15/2018/ND-CP and the plan to draft the Law amending the Law on Food Safety, expected to be submitted to the National Assembly in October 2025.
