Xiaomi has been offering telephoto cameras on its high-end phones for the past few years. However, for the Xiaomi 15 series, the company has switched to a periscope telephoto camera on the Pro model while the standard version is equipped with a telephoto camera.
Recently, there are sources saying that both Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro have periscope telephoto cameras.
According to leaker Digital Chat Station, an upcoming phone equipped with the SM8850 chip is expected to have a periscope telephoto camera. The SM8850 chip is the codename of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, expected to launch in October 2025. And the phone mentioned is most likely the Xiaomi 16 - expected to be the first smartphone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to use TSMC's N3P node - an advanced 3nm manufacturing process. This technology is designed to improve performance and energy efficiency, similar to Apple's A19 chip (which is also rumored to use this node).
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to deliver 20% higher CPU performance than its predecessor, providing a better user experience.
This leaker also added that the Xiaomi 16 series has not yet entered the product authentication testing phase, this phase may take place in the second quarter of 2025.
