Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Que worked with Border Guard Squadron 48

(GLO)- On the morning of July 16, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Que visited and worked with Border Guard Squadron 48 (Border Guard Command).

At the meeting, Colonel Phan Duc Cuong - Commander of Border Guard Squadron 48 - reported on some outstanding results of the unit in recent times.

As a mobile combat unit at sea, Squadron 48 is tasked with patrolling and controlling the sea area from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa. In the first 6 months of the year, the unit organized 7 patrols and controlled a total of 4,314 nautical miles.

In addition to propaganda and dissemination of laws at sea, Squadron 48 also effectively implemented the task of preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, fighting against smuggling and trade fraud. Rescue work was given special attention. The unit promptly rescued 2 fishing boats, brought 12 fishermen safely ashore, and rescued 2 fishermen who had work accidents at sea.

In addition, Squadron 48 also actively cooperates with local authorities to propagate and support fishermen to stay at sea, build comrades' houses, organize free medical examination and treatment, distribute medicine, and give gifts to policy families, poor households, and students in difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Que acknowledged and commended the efforts and positive contributions of officers and soldiers of Naval Division 48 in protecting sovereignty and security of the sea and islands, and at the same time requested the Naval Division to continue to promote its core role, proactively coordinate with departments, branches and localities to effectively carry out the task of managing and protecting the sea area associated with building a strong national border defense.

In particular, it is necessary to pay special attention to coordinating with the province in the fight against IUU fishing, especially preventing and ending the situation of Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen illegally exploiting seafood in foreign waters, contributing to the locality's early removal of the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC), accompanying the locality in social security work and strengthening military-civilian relations in the area.
