Buddha's relics arrive in Ho Chi Minh City

(Dan Tri) - Buddha's relics are enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda (Binh Chanh District) and opened for Buddhists and visitors to worship from May 3.

On the morning of May 2, a military plane carrying relics of Buddha Shakyamuni from India landed at Tan Son Nhat airport, Ho Chi Minh City.

Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Dao Ngoc Dung and Permanent Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Ngoc Hai were present at the airport to welcome the treasure from India.

Welcoming the Buddha's relics were Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Deputy Supreme Patriarch, Chairman of the Executive Council; Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council; Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Executive Council; and other clergy.

After the handover ceremony to the Vietnamese side, the Buddha's relics were brought on a special vehicle and brought to the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, and enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda (next to the academy). The Buddha's relics are expected to be opened for Buddhists and visitors to worship from May 3.

The procession of Buddha's relics - India's national treasure - to Vietnam is part of a series of events for the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival held in Ho Chi Minh City.
