Windows 11 24H2 continues to have problems that give users headaches

Although newly released, the Windows 11 24H2 update has caused a lot of trouble for users when errors continuously appear, affecting the user experience on the device.

The Windows 11 24H2 update is causing serious problems for users using Western Digital SSDs, causing computers to continuously encounter “blue screen of death” (BSOD) errors and greatly affecting the user experience.

The bug has been widely reported on Microsoft's support forums. Specifically, many users of Western Digital NVMe SSDs, especially the WD Black SN770 and WD Blue SN580 models, have encountered BSOD errors after updating to Windows 11 24H2.

The cause of the problem was determined to be that the update allocated too much cache memory to SSDs without DRAM. Accordingly, Windows 11 24H2 used up to 200 MB of RAM for the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature, while the actual requirement of these SSDs was only 64 MB. This led to a conflict and caused the BSOD error.

Microsoft has yet to comment on the issue or release an official patch to fix it, but the fact that Windows 11 24H2 continues to cause serious errors for users has once again raised concerns about the quality of new Windows updates.

Users can temporarily fix this error by limiting the HMB size to 64 MB or completely disabling this feature via Registry Editor. However, this method may affect file transfer performance.

Western Digital SSD users are advised to think carefully before updating to Windows 11 24H2. If you have updated and are experiencing BSOD errors, try applying the temporary solution or rolling back to Windows 11 version 23H2.
