To improve the quality and price of this delicious fruit, farmers at the cooperative not only apply scientific and technical advances and advanced farming processes to production to create quality and safe products, but also process the trees to produce fruit early to sell at high prices. The cooperative also focuses on connecting and connecting with businesses to successfully export longan fruit to many demanding markets.

Link efficiency

Thanks to growing longan, many farmers at Thai Thanh Fruit Cooperative in Thoi Hung Commune, Co Do District have had a good income to improve their family's life. Currently, Thai Thanh Fruit Cooperative has 18 member households, with a longan growing area of over 140 hectares, mainly longan trees. The cooperative cooperates in growing longan in the direction of quality, safety and has a growing area code, so it sells well in the domestic market and is purchased by businesses for export to demanding markets such as Australia, Japan, the United States, etc.

Farmers at the cooperative constantly research and apply technical solutions to proactively help some longan areas bear fruit early, off-season, helping the product sell at quite high prices, at many times reaching 50,000-80,000 VND/kg...

Mr. Dang Thanh Tam, residing in Hamlet 1, Thoi Hung Commune, a member of Thai Thanh Fruit Cooperative, said: "I have more than 25 hectares of land growing longan for about 5 years and currently have a good income from this crop. In particular, this year, my longan continues to be processed to produce early fruit and has been harvested and sold for 80,000 VND/kg. Although the yield of early fruit is not as high as the main crop, it is sold at a high price, thanks to which I have a good income, contributing to limiting the situation of peak season and price reduction. Last year's longan crop, my longan garden yielded 15 tons, and this year it yielded about 20 tons."

Mr. Bui Van Tai, residing in Hamlet 7, Thoi Hung Commune, a member of Thai Thanh Fruit Cooperative, also said: "I have 2.5 hectares of longan trees that are 6 years old and have produced 4 harvests in favorable seasons, with an average yield of 15 tons/ha. With a good selling price like in the past, I can earn from 300-400 million VND/year or more per hectare of longan, 10 times higher than when I grew rice before."

According to Mr. Tai, joining the cooperative since 2018, his family and many other households growing longan in the locality have had the opportunity to connect and support each other in production, while forming concentrated longan growing areas. Thereby, it is convenient to build growing area codes, standardize production to meet VietGAP standards or organic standards and safety standards to meet the requirements of the domestic and export markets.

Through the formation of cooperatives associated with concentrated growing areas, farmers also have an advantage in connecting with businesses to stabilize and increase product prices thanks to the successful export of longan fruit to demanding markets.

Towards sustainable production

The demand for delicious and high-quality fruits is increasing in both domestic and export markets. This is an opportunity for farmers at Thai Thanh Fruit Cooperative to promote the production and consumption of longan fruit, a fruit that is highly appreciated by many people for its quality and deliciousness. Longan trees not only produce large fruits, but also have fragrant, crispy, thick flesh, small seeds, a sweet taste, and are not watery, so they are favored by many consumers.

Mr. Tran Phuoc Son, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thai Thanh Fruit Cooperative, said: "Longan is a new, delicious variety of fruit that many households in the Cooperative are very enthusiastic and passionate about growing. In recent years, the Cooperative has cooperated with units and businesses for domestic consumption and export. The Cooperative has also cooperated with Vina T&T Import-Export Trading Service Company Limited to export longan to demanding markets such as the United States, Australia... To maintain the reputation, product quality and sustainable development of longan trees, the Cooperative will continue to focus on improving product quality, making longan fruit increasingly more delicious, cleaner and more beautiful. To do so, it is necessary to produce in the direction of high quality, safety, meeting good agricultural practice standards such as VietGAP, Global GAP...".

According to Mr. Son, in addition to growing longan for natural seasonal fruit, some members of the cooperative have researched and applied technical solutions for early fruiting trees to sell for high prices, which is a very good sign. In the future, the cooperative will continue to promote these results and have directions and organizations for members to allocate areas for seasonal fruit and spread out appropriate off-season crops to meet the export purchasing requirements of businesses and help members sell products at the best prices.

In recent years, the area of fruit trees in Co Do district has continuously increased and the district has more than 4,990 hectares of fruit trees, including more than 656.9 hectares of longan of all kinds. Currently, longan is grown mainly in Thoi Hung commune and some neighboring communes such as Dong Hiep and Dong Thang, with varieties such as Ido longan, Thanh longan, yellow rice longan and pepper.

The land in Co Do district produces delicious fruit, has great potential for developing production and consumption of products, helping to create income and jobs for many households in the area. In fact, in recent times, thanks to growing longan trees, many farmers in Co Do district have had very good incomes and have had the conditions to improve their family life, striving to become rich. With the attention, encouragement and support of the functional sector, along with the efforts of farmers in improving product quality and strengthening production and consumption linkages, we believe that longan trees in Co Do district will have many favorable conditions for stable and sustainable development.
