72 years ago, on August 28, 1953, the army and people of Tien Lang district heroically and successfully carried out a sweep, forcing the French colonialists to withdraw all two strategic mobile corps from this land. This was an important event, contributing to the victory of the army and people of the whole country in the 1953-1954 Winter-Spring Campaign, culminating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, which "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the earth".

The history of the Tien Lang District Party Committee published by Hai Phong Publishing House recorded: “…to deal with our activities and protect the vital traffic route No. 10, in early 1953, the French colonialists brought 400 European-African troops to station on both banks of the Moi River in the area of ​​Tu Cuong and Quyet Tien communes (now Quyet Thang commune). They chased people, destroyed villages and trees, and created a white belt on both sides of the river. The enemy regularly mobilized 500 to 2,000 troops to sweep, terrorize and suppress the people…

Tien Lang has a particularly important military and defense position. From here, our troops often chose it as a starting point to attack Kien An, Hai Phong, and Do Son, shaking the enemy's strategic defense system. Therefore, Tien Lang was like a "thorn" that needed to be removed and was identified by the French colonialists as the key target of the Nava plan in the Northern Coastal Plain.

From the summer of 1953, the French colonialists conducted nearly 30 sweeps, sent spies and scouts into Tien Lang to probe, combined with planes dropping leaflets to spread propaganda to deceive and intimidate the people.

Early in the morning of August 28, 1953, the French colonialists mobilized two strategic mobile corps, along with other forces, to launch a siege and sweep operation called Co-lot into the Tien Lang guerrilla zone. Under the leadership and direction of the Inter-zone Party Committee, the Provincial Party Committee and the Kien An Provincial Military Command, directly by the District Party Committee and the Steering Committee against the sweep, officers and soldiers of the 295th Company of the Provincial Military Command and the 196th Company of the district army (from September 7, 1953, the Provincial Military Command reinforced the 331st Company) along with tens of thousands of militiamen and guerrillas from the communes fought intelligently and bravely to stop, destroy and wear down the enemy's forces in 5 advancing directions.

During 23 days and nights (from August 28 to September 20, 1953), the army and people of Tien Lang killed 667 enemies, wounded 204, captured 8, destroyed and seized many vehicles, guns and ammunition. The tenacious and heroic fighting forced the enemy to withdraw the entire two strategic mobile corps from Tien Lang on September 20, 1953. Withdrawing from Tien Lang, the enemy commander Nemo exclaimed: "Sweeping up Tien Lang, the French army had to deal with a forest of spikes, even children fought as fiercely as lions."

Traffic routes in Chan Hung commune are invested and expanded to facilitate traffic and socio-economic development.

Before the resounding victory of the army and people of Tien Lang, on September 29, 1953, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter of praise and, on behalf of the Government, awarded the First Class Resistance Medal to the people, soldiers and cadres of Tien Lang district. In the letter, Uncle Ho wrote: "I hope that everyone will enthusiastically unite to fight, not subjectively underestimate the enemy, always be alert and prepared to defeat all new evil plots of the enemy, and gain new victories."

Shaping new development space

Rising from a heroic homeland, Tien Lang has developed in all aspects. The socio-economy has developed steadily; national defense and security have been maintained and become an investment attraction of Hai Phong city. When implementing a 2-level local government, from July 1, 2025, Tien Lang district will be organized and arranged into 6 communes, including: Tien Lang, Quyet Thang, Tan Minh, Tien Minh, Chan Hung and Hung Thang.

After 2 months of implementing the 2-level local government model, communes promptly deployed a large amount of work to complete the apparatus, organize personnel according to job positions, build working regulations, work programs of each agency, department... The team of cadres and civil servants promoted the spirit of responsibility, proactiveness, and flexibility in performing tasks; the people agreed and supported the merger and actively coordinated with the government in performing political tasks and socio-economic development in the locality.

From a purely agricultural district to now, the communes in Tien Lang district have focused on attracting investment and developing industrial parks and clusters.

Quyet Thang Commune has a particularly favorable location, close to many key industrial parks of the city; many industrial clusters are urgently being invested in, attracting businesses to come to produce and do business. Comrade Luong Van Minh, Party Secretary, Chairman of Quyet Thang Commune People's Council, said: taking advantage of the above advantages, the Commune Party Committee clearly defined the goal that by 2030 Quyet Thang Commune will develop comprehensively, richly, civilizedly and modernly. In particular, the first breakthrough focused on leadership and direction is: developing industrial clusters in a modern and synchronous direction. Focus on attracting investment and promoting the development of Tien Cuong II and Dai Thang Industrial Clusters, linking the construction of smart rural areas to urban criteria to create more jobs on the spot, increasing income for people.

Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Hung Thang Commune, Do Manh Hieu, said: Hung Thang Commune aims to become a developed, civilized commune by 2030, and a modern and prosperous commune by 2045. Regarding economic development, the locality focuses on prioritizing the strong development of the trade - service - logistics - digital economy sector. In the future, Hung Thang Commune will become a service - logistics center, effectively connecting with Tien Lang airport, seaports, industrial parks, strategic traffic routes and coastal commodity production areas...

In the autumn days of August, when coming to the communes of Tien Lang district in the past, it is easy to feel the changes in the heroic land of the past. From a suburban countryside with an economy mainly based on agriculture and difficult transportation, today the infrastructure system has been invested in and expanded. The Khue ferry, Dang and Han pontoon bridges have given way to sturdy bridges connecting the two banks, bringing new joy to the people. A series of traffic works such as Tien Thanh, Van Uc and Thai Binh bridges have been put into use, opening up new development space. In particular, Hung Thang and Chan Hung communes are considered the "heart" of the Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong, promising many breakthrough opportunities in the future.

Up to now, all 6/6 communes have successfully organized the Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term. The congresses have clearly defined the goals, tasks, and solutions, and at the same time oriented the development space of each locality on the basis of inheriting traditions, identities, and promoting advantages in the new period.
