In early January, the working atmosphere at the gardens in Minh Tan commune (Dong Hung, Thai Binh ) was as bustling as before Tet. People worked the land, moved the plants, planted the trees, fertilized, watered..., all very skillfully and quickly.
Tens of thousands of peach tree seedlings were quickly planted by garden owners in the vacant land where the peach trees had been taken away to decorate the spring. In Minh Tan, most of the peach trees for Tet are sold immediately, not rented, so garden owners have to proactively buy seedlings for the new peach crop from the previous year.
After a successful Tet peach crop, Mr. Pham Ba Ngan's family in Hoang Duc village is currently busy planting a new peach crop. Because he was proactive in planting seedlings from the previous year, after Tet, Mr. Ngan had enough quality seedlings to transfer from the nursery to the new garden with a total of 400 trees on an area of 5 sao.
This season, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Minh Tan commune (Dong Hung, Thai Binh) planted more than 300 ornamental peach trees.
Mr. Ngan shared: If you want the tree to grow well, you must first treat the soil because the tree likes strange soil, so you have to turn the soil, add new soil to the garden, use a milling machine to loosen the soil, make beds, then place the seedlings in rows, fertilize, and cover the roots with soil. Every year, my family proactively breeds to save costs and ensure a high survival rate. After planting, when the tree grows green, graft, bend and prune the branches to create a unique shape and position according to your wishes, fertilize and water properly and at the right time.
Planting and caring for peach trees is very elaborate, through many stages, all of which must ensure the correct process and technique because just one mistake in any stage will affect the growth, shape, and proper flowering of the tree later on.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thuan, Hoang Duc village said: Last Tet, his family earned 500 million VND from selling peach trees. This new crop, his family planted 500 peach trees to sell to people to celebrate Tet and about 3,000 seedlings to prepare for the next peach crop because peach seedlings must be grown a year in advance. After planting, they must be hoeed, fertilized, and monitored regularly to spray pesticides on the trees in time. From planting until August, they must be cared for periodically, when the soil is dry, they must be watered immediately, and the tree must always be kept moist for growth. By September, they stop caring for the trees and focus on pruning and shaping the trees.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Hoang Duc village, who has more than 10 years of experience growing peach trees, peach trees cannot withstand waterlogging, so they must be planted on high ground, with high beds, loose soil, and quick drainage ditches. They must be planted in an open space, and watered immediately after planting so that the tree can recover and develop quickly. In September, the bark is ringed and the base is turned to limit the growth of the tree, and in November, the leaves are stripped so that the tree can move to the bud stage.
Minh Tan commune is famous for growing ornamental peach trees and making products from lucky bamboo. In particular, growing peach trees to serve the Tet market has long been a profession that has helped many families here get rich, so the people of Minh Tan, especially in the two villages of Hoang Duc and Dinh Phung, have actively converted ineffective rice fields to growing peach trees. Up to now, the whole commune has nearly 60 hectares of peach trees and other ornamental plants.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hau, Chairman of Minh Tan Commune People's Committee, said: To facilitate farmers to expand peach growing area, the Commune People's Committee assigned the Agricultural Service Cooperative to organize the dredging of water flow, ensure irrigation and drainage, coordinate with related units to provide quality deferred fertilizer for garden owners to take care of newly planted trees; open training courses for farmers on techniques of soil preparation, planting, care, pest control and disease prevention for peach trees.
Socio -political organizations provide credit to banks to lend people capital to invest in planting new peach crops. Focus on doing a good job of informing and promoting Minh Tan peach trees on social networks as well as other channels to help growers have new consumption channels, increasing farmers' income.
The newly planted peach trees on Minh Tan land are being carefully cared for, carrying the people's wishes for a year of favorable weather and a successful new peach crop.
