Second roof
One day in late July, taking advantage of the sunny weather, officers and soldiers of Battalion 3 (Air Defense Artillery Brigade 234) divided into many small groups to clean the barracks. The working atmosphere was enthusiastic and filled with laughter. Private K Nguyen (Company 9, Battalion 3) shared: “During the week, according to the unit's assignment, we take turns cleaning the rooms, trimming trees, and taking care of flower beds. At first, we did those things out of duty, but gradually we felt attached to them. Looking at the flower beds that we made with our own hands, we felt like the unit was home, and we loved the place where we were performing our military service even more.”

Walking on the internal roads in the Battalion 3 campus, the first impression is a space full of vitality. Rows of tall pine trees provide shade, flower bushes are neatly planted along the road, flower beds and flower stands are all scientifically and cleverly arranged in the middle of the barracks. That is the result of many years of persistently implementing the policy of building a regular, green, clean and beautiful unit through many specific methods.
Battalion 3 has carried out the work of building a regular, green, clean and beautiful unit barracks through practical, concrete and deeply educational activities. For example, promoting the spirit of self-awareness among officers and soldiers by collecting beautiful flowers to plant in the barracks. Along with that, it is necessary to maintain the pruning of more than 400 trees in the barracks, improve the garden soil and take care of the grass.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Huu Don - Political Commissar of Battalion 3 - said: “From the beginning of 2025 until now, with the Battalion's budget, we have repainted the barracks and renovated 100 flower pots to add beauty to the unit's campus. In addition to taking care of the landscape, the Battalion also promotes agricultural production to improve the soldiers' lives and create funds for activities. Currently, the unit raises more than 800 poultry and 50 pigs. Revenue from agricultural production is partly used to buy paint, flower pots, and cleaning tools to serve the barracks' renovation."
Green living environment motivates training
Practical work in the units has contributed to the greenness and cleanliness of the 234th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. The unity from the bottom up creates a synchronous whole in the entire unit from the outside landscape to the living and working routine inside. Right from its establishment, the Brigade has planned a methodical infrastructure for the barracks and planted trees synchronously along the internal roads and training grounds. Up to now, in the unit campus there are about 2,000 trees with a root diameter of 20 - 40 cm such as pine, Lagerstroemia, and Acacia...
There are many straight rows of pine trees planted along the internal roads to create shade. The residential and office areas are all painted and scientifically arranged, with resting and relaxing areas for officers and soldiers. This has created a clean, beautiful, and natural landscape for the unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Hieu - Political Commissar of the 234th Air Defense Artillery Brigade - informed: "In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the Brigade has invested more than 300 million VND to renovate internal roads, repaint houses, public houses, memorials and renovate flower stands".
Every year, the Brigade also organizes a spring flower festival and barracks decoration contest to welcome Tet to create a competitive atmosphere throughout the unit and to encourage the spirit of officers and soldiers. When living in a formal, green, and beautiful environment, the spirit of studying and training will also be more enthusiastic and disciplined. That is how the Brigade fosters the spirit of solidarity and discipline among officers and soldiers. Over the years, the Brigade has been evaluated as one of the typical units in building formal, green, clean, and beautiful barracks.
