Special emergency session to discuss conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The meeting was convened after a permanent member country vetoed a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian access to Gaza at the Security Council on June 4.

At the meeting, the President of the General Assembly and most representatives of nearly 90 countries and groups of countries expressed deep concern about the prolonged conflict and humanitarian disaster, and expressed disappointment at the Security Council's continued deadlock in finding solutions and a common voice for the crisis in Gaza.

Many countries condemned the blockade of all humanitarian aid to 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, calling on relevant parties to respect international law and UN resolutions, end fighting, release hostages unconditionally, protect civilians as well as essential civilian facilities, and absolutely not hinder humanitarian relief activities.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, shared the common concerns of the international community; affirmed Vietnam's principled and consistent stance on issues related to Palestine, calling for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire across the entire Gaza Strip.

The Vietnamese representative stressed the urgency of ensuring that humanitarian relief activities for people in Gaza are not hindered or interrupted; highlighted the irreplaceable role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in providing essential assistance and services to the Palestinian people.

On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen affirmed that Vietnam firmly supports the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State, on the basis of pre-1967 borders, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

Vietnam welcomes international diplomatic efforts and the organization of the High-level Conference on the implementation of United Nations resolutions related to the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, and hopes that the Conference will resume as soon as possible; at the same time, it affirms its readiness to contribute to discussions on the reconstruction and governance of Gaza after the conflict.

Also at the session, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the protection of civilians and compliance with legal humanitarian obligations in Gaza with 149 votes in favor, 12 votes against and 19 abstentions. Vietnam was one of the co-sponsors and voted in favor of this resolution, demonstrating its commitment to actively contributing to international efforts to resolve the crisis and promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
