The Klintsovsk oil depot in Russia's Bryansk region caught fire after a Ukrainian UAV dropped shells on the facility before being shot down.

"Four oil product storage tanks in Klintsy are on fire. The fire and rescue teams of the Bryansk emergency response department and the Bryansk fire and rescue center are extinguishing the fire. The complexity of the fire is increasing," Governor Alexander Bogomaz announced on January 19.

More than 140 people are currently battling the fire at the Klintsovsk oil depot with specialized equipment. Local authorities have evacuated 32 people from the area to ensure their safety and prepared temporary accommodation for them.

A Ukrainian security source later said the UAV attack was carried out by the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR), but did not give further details.

This is the second attack on a Russian oil facility in recent days. Russian officials said on January 18 that their forces shot down an explosive-laden UAV targeting an oil depot in the northern region of Leningrad, nearly 1,000 km from the border with Ukraine, without causing damage or casualties.

Ukraine regularly launches artillery, missile and UAV attacks on Russia's border provinces. On January 15, Russian air defenses shot down two Tochka-U tactical ballistic missiles and three Ukrainian UAVs over Bryansk province.

Bryansk authorities are imposing increased law enforcement activity, conducting searches at train stations and crowded places, putting medical facilities on high alert and tightening security at strategic facilities.
