Indonesian women's team drops dramatically in rankings before Vietnam match

The Vietnamese women's team will face Indonesia at 7:30 p.m. today (August 9) in the second match of Group A of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ).

However, the girls of the "island country" team received unbelievable news when they dropped seriously in the recently updated FIFA rankings. Specifically, they dropped 11 places, from 95th to 106th in the world .

The reason for this decline is due to the poor performance in the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers held in early July. In the three matches played, Indonesia only had one victory, 1-0 against Kyrgyzstan, while suffering two defeats with a score of 0-2 against Pakistan and 1-2 against Chinese Taipei.

These poor results caused the Indonesian women's team to lose 34.4 points, from 1211.38 to 1176.98 points.

With this ranking, the Indonesian women's team is currently ranked 20th in the Asia region (AFC), behind many other Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam (ranked 37th), Philippines (ranked 39th), Thailand (ranked 53rd), Myanmar (ranked 56th), Malaysia (ranked 92nd) and even Bangladesh (ranked 104th).

This decline is bad news for the Indonesian women's team, especially right before the confrontation with the Vietnamese women's team in the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship.

In the opening match, the Indonesian girls also suffered a shocking 0-7 defeat against Thailand. If they do not have a good result against host Vietnam, the Indonesian women's team will likely have to say goodbye to the tournament early.
