"China is not afraid of competition, but we oppose defining the China-US relationship in terms of competition," Mao said at a regular press conference on November 13. The spokesperson called on the US to respect China's reasonable concerns and legitimate development rights, instead of only emphasizing its concerns at the expense of Beijing's interests. "China does not seek to change the US, and the US should not shape or change China," Mao noted.

Earlier, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said the two leaders would discuss issues in bilateral relations, the importance of maintaining communication channels, and regional and global issues.

Building on their last meeting in November 2022, President Biden and President Xi will discuss how the United States and China can continue to manage competition responsibly and work together on areas of mutual interest, especially cross-border challenges that affect the international community, according to Ms. Jean-Pierre.
