China's Ministry of Water Resources has activated a flood emergency response in Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, all in the country's northwest, Xinhua News Agency reported on August 3. The flood emergency response level in Gansu and Qinghai has been raised to level III.
Heavy rain is forecast to hit northeastern Qinghai, central Gansu and northern Ningxia . Water levels in some upper reaches of the Yellow River are expected to rise, and some medium and small rivers are likely to exceed flood warning levels.

According to the forecast of the Ministry and the China Meteorological Administration, many areas in Gansu and Qinghai provinces face the risk of red-level flash floods from the evening of August 3 to the evening of August 4. Red is the highest warning level.
China's Ministry of Water Resources has called on local authorities to closely monitor the weather situation and take measures to protect people's lives and property.
The ministry has sent two working groups to Qinghai and Ningxia to assist in flood control.

In addition, a working group has been dispatched to Guangdong to support local flood control efforts, the Ministry of Emergency Management added.
Earlier, at around 8:22 p.m. on August 1, authorities received a report that five people who had gone to Baima Mountain in Huidong County, Guangdong Province, for fun had been swept away by floodwaters and went missing. At around 2:15 p.m. on August 3, the bodies of the five missing victims were found. One of the victims was only 17 years old.
It is known that this area has suffered heavy rain in recent days.
