Farmers in Chi Lang Nam commune (Thanh Mien) in collaboration with the Center for Research and Development of Flowers and Ornamental Plants have implemented the model of "Research, selection and development of a model for growing some lotus varieties associated with tourism development in Hai Duong". Accordingly, people grow 4 types of lotus including: Super (lotus for flowers), White Quan Am (lotus for shoots), Face ground (lotus for seeds) and Van Dai 1 (lotus for tubers) with an area of 3 hectares in the area of Co Island. Planting time is from April 2025.
The results showed that the above lotus varieties appeared to have diseases such as green worms, thrips, golden apple snails, anthracnose... However, farmers were instructed on care measures so they were not much affected.

For Super lotus, after about 50 - 60 days of planting, the first batch of flowers can be harvested, and the next batch of flowers can be harvested every 2 - 3 days. Super lotus yields about 53 flowers/10 m2 , 9 flowers/10 m2 higher than the locally grown variety. Super lotus flowers cost from 50,000 - 60,000 VND/10 flowers, on average, 1 hectare yields 500 - 700 flowers per day.
With the Flat lotus, the average seed yield is about 4.2 kg/ 10m2 , 0.7 kg/ 10m2 higher than the control variety. The selling price of fresh unpeeled lotus seeds is from 50,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, fresh peeled lotus seeds are from 180,000 - 200,000 VND/kg.
With white Quan Am lotus, lotus shoots can be harvested about 40 - 50 days after planting. Shoot yield reaches 3.5 kg/ 10m2 , 0.7 kg/ 10m2 higher than the control variety, selling price from 40,000 - 50,000 kg.

For lotus roots, currently because they are newly planted, the yield has not been evaluated, however, fresh lotus roots are sold for 40,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.
According to the calculation of the model implementation unit, 1 hectare of raw products can yield 120 - 150 million VND/year, if processed, it can yield 220 - 250 million VND/year, the profit is 50 - 70 million VND/ha, 3 - 5 times higher than rice cultivation. In addition, lotus cultivation also promotes the development of cultural and tourism activities.
