According to Yonhap , South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) said on June 14 that North Korea attempted to steal personal information by creating a website impersonating South Korea's major online portal Naver.

According to the NIS, the fake website www.naverportal.com mimics Naver's front page (www.naver.com), with typical features of real-time news, advertisements, and optional items.

The NIS said this is one of the new approaches in North Korea's online attack strategy to steal personal information of South Korean internet users.

Previously, North Korea attempted to obtain usernames and passwords by copying Naver's login page.

The NIS said it has shared the information with the government and other relevant agencies, including the Korea Internet and Security Agency.

The agency has taken action to block access to the fake website.
